Less than five hours after news bulletin-s from the white House flashed around the world. Gen. Mac-Arthur's headquarters in Tokyo revportlcd that American planes were already in action against the Rus-

sian-trained invaders of South Korea. In Washington. the navy said

some of its fighting craft now on the United States west coast un- doubtedly will be shifted in gen- eral support of operations in the Korean theatre.

The navy said American de- stroyers and other craft prdbably will be ready tomorrow to deliver blows against Communist seaborne landings, such as the invaders have made at four points in South Korea.

A direct move to have Russia and the conflict was announced meanwhile by the State Depart- merit.

The Department said Alan G. Kirk, United states Ambassador. delivered a. note to the soviet For- eign office in Moscow asking Rus- sia to "use its influence for the withdrawal of the invading forces and the cessation of hostilities."

The President said he was send- ing warships and planes to help embattled south Korea. and he drew a. taut line against the spread of communist aggression in the Orient. -- -- .

U. S. Asks Russia To Aid In Ending Korean War p

WASHINGTON. June 27-(AP)- The United States asked Russia today to use its influence to bring about the withdrawal of the invading Communist forces from South Korea.

Ambassador Alan G. Kirk deliv- ered the request In ll note to the Soviet Foreign Office in Moscow. The Slate Department. announced the action here.

The text of the note was not made public lmmcdinlely.

Those voting for the resolution were the United States. Britain. France. China. Norway. Ecuador and Cuba.

The Council then proceeded to defeat a Yugoslav proposal to mediate the Korean war. and to invite the representative of the North Korean authorities to state their case before the Council. The Council had defeated a similar Yugoslav proposal Sunday.

Immediately after the votes, ovcrscns telephone calls came in for the Egyptian and Indian dele- gates. and the Council session was interrupted to permit the delegates to obtain latest instruc- tlons from their Governments.

However. nothing came of the phone calls, and the Council ad- Journcd at 11:05 p.m. EDT.

TOKYO. June 28 --(Wednesday) -(Reuters)--The pilot of a United States B26 light bomber reported on his return to a Japanese base this afternoon that his plane knocked out six Northern Korean tanks in operations aiding the South Korean republic.

Work has commenced on the construction of a new community hall at Sourls. P.E.I. The hall is centrally located on the main street of the town and will serve as I definite benefit to the social life of the area.

The basement of the hall will contain .twa modern bowling alleys. kitchens, banquet hall and meeting rooms, while the main hall on lhe upper floor will have a large auditorium complete with stage. toilet facilities, etc.

The building is approximately 90' x 45' in size. and will be con- structed with a concrete foun- dation. steel supporting beams. and frame construction with an attractive outside appearance.

Discusses Ottawa Policy In Relation To Food Surpluses

"Politicians, economists and oth. ers in official life may have their respective definitions of food sur- pluses. but to a farmer the defin- ltion is simple: a food surplus ex- ists when it has resulted in a price so low to the farmer that the ma- jority of farmers cannot profitably maintain current levels of produc- tion," said Dr. E. C. Hope, econom- ist for the Canadian Federation of Agriculture, in an address deliver- ed to the annual convention of the Agricultural Institute of Canada here last night. on the subject of food surpluses.

"The Minister of Agriculture has insisted at times that there is no surplus of either butter or cheese at the present time. In file House recently he stated that up to -the present there has not been any great difficulty in selling butter and cheese nor is there likely to be in the immediate future. "On the other hand," said Dr. Hope. ”we have farmers and farm organizations insisting that there is a surplus condition for a num- ber of farm products.
