The Wave is just a group of friends

The Editor:

I am in absolute and total agreement with Mr. MacLeod and his views on the Wave security. As a former employee of the Wave and as for- mer UPEISU Security Chief, I came to learn a few things about the Wave.

The Wave is simply a place that is run by friends and friends of friends; everybody else need not apply. The things that staff can get away with in that place is simply unbelieveable and they should be watched much more closely by the real authorities than they are.

The upper management, mangement, and even staff members are all a tightly knit group of friends who, by times, feel the rules do not ap- ply to them.

When I worked at the Wave, I tried to keep in touch and keep a growing relationship with — UPEI Security Services and the PEILCC so we would be able to work in collaboration to help reinforce the liquor laws and safety of the people within and leaving the bar. However, due to the extra work and less fun

this created for the seasoned staff members, they

didn’t seem to enjoy the “working atmosphere” at the Wave anymore. r

The situation really doesn’t surprise me at all. In fact, if he was a part of this little staff group, he could have had 19 straight shots of rum in six minutes and wouldn’t even be spoken to.

The main problem I believe lies in upper man- agement and the inexperienced new students

to a job. Essentially, nobody has the years of experience to become really good at any given

job the Wave may offer.

It’s a place I’ve really never felt safe working in and have constantly felt that people (espe- cially the staff members and mangement) were working against me instead of with me in sup-

Smokers aren’t just going to leave campus

The Editor:

I am a smoker and I do smoke on campus. I see the obvious reasons others do not want smok- ers to be allowed to smoke on campus but on the other hand students are only here for four to eight years depending on their major and other reasons.

I have talked to teachers that smoke and to the Chartwells employees who work here, and have been for years.

The smoking issue and their choices are also to be taken into consideration.

It is the teachers and workers who are on cam- pus day in day out, year after year, who chose to smoke and they would not and will not leave campus simply because students complain. Stu- dents complain about everything.

I am a student complaining about students complaining.

The only thing to do, for the non-smokers, is

to continue to not smoke. We have a right to smoke. It is our own choice. For the students that are extremely upset about these issues, you will be gone within a few years, but think about potential jobs and some co-workers that will smoke close to the business.

You will more then likely just leave them alone. ae
