“MOUNT CARMEL CHURCH. It is a Large and Well-Appointed Structure.
The magnificent new church of Moun: Carmel, which promises to be *‘a veritable poem in stone aod brick,” is beantifully situated, in the midst of a splendid district overlooking the Straits, which are here about twelve miles wide, the New Bruns-~ wick shore from Cape Tormentine for a distance west of Cape RBauld, and one of the most strikieg'y beautiful parts of the Is- land coast. Its immediate surroundings are charming, ani not surpassed anywhere in this part of the country. In size the pew church is agreat+tructure, and will rank next to the Charlottetown Cathedral. The length of the building is 139 feet 9 in. and the width 60 feet. In addition, there isa vestry 29x32 feet. and a side chapel 22x28 feet. There will be twin spires, one hundred feet in height, aod over the sanutuary an octagonal campavella will rise seventeen feet above the roof. Onthe roof itself there will] bean iron creating, thirty eight inches high. The sanctuary, the eleva-~ tien of which is seven feet above the main floor, will be 30x34 feet. The seating capacity of the church is estimated a: one thousand, and there will be no gallery except for thechoir. The buiiding is, as already noted, of brick and stone. One side is already completed, snd all the brick and stone work is expected to be finished in two weeks more. Tbe brick, which was all manufactured a short distance from the church, is said to be of the best qual~ ity ever handled io this province. Eight hundred and sixty tons of rough sione were used in the foundation work. The brick walls rest on four feetof Newcastle grey stone, all around the chureh, and stone from the same quarry is used for window sills, keys, caps of buttresses, and for the gable eaves of the facade. The con-
struction, which is of the very best character throvghout, is all done by day’s work, under the
personal inspection of the pastor, Rev. P. P Arsenauit, and about thirty bands are employed. Mr. Geo E Baker, Summer- side, is foremanof the work. Mr Duffy is superintendent of the stone cutting, and Mr. Gormley is superintendent of the masons. The architects are Merars Lemay of Quebec, ard Berliaguet, of Three Riv- ers, both of whom sre well known in this rovince.

The investigation was resumed at 2.15 p.m, George Rodd (s¥orn)—I was in Coar-
lotietown on Monday and met William Proud atthe Railway Station when he came in On the train. We wentup town, met his brother Peter aud went to Mrs.
Phelan’s. After that we parted and met again at half-past five when Carr and William Proud were swapping horses Then Peter Proud, William Proud, Carr and myself went down to Thorne’s, Snoring Park. Carr and William got out, I said to Peter ‘We'll get a drink of beer,” and L gotout and wentinto Thornes expecting to follow. Bat did not

Trainor had the whip and was trying to get thereins from Peter, who told him to getout. Isaid to Traivor that he’d better get out, as Peter was on the beer. He (Trainor) got ont after a bit, and hit Peter in the wagon. P ter got out and he and Trainor fought a while. Jobo Hughes and Thorne were b:cking Trainor up, but Thorne did not strike Proud. Iwas trying to get Peter away. Then Wm Proud the (deceased) came running down the side- walk, aod asked Thorne what they were doiog to the horse and to his brother. Thorne hit bim with his fist in the side of the head or face aod Wm staggered back towards the wagon when Joho Hughes struck at bim wit his fist as he was fall- irg. I picked him up and put bim in the wagon. He was bleeding from the pose aod mouth. This was the only bléw I saw him get. I got into the wagon and bis head fell on my shoulder, helplessly. He never spoke. We sprinkled him with water aod took him out of the wagon and Peier ‘and I started for the doctor. When Sthe blows were Edward Hughes was there, pu'ting in a lick when he could tike the rest ofthem. There was quite a few peopie about. When Wm Proud was struck he fell. First Thorne struck him then Hughesand Tra‘nor struck him, There was never any trouble between the parties "and no reason why there should have been a row. The cause of it was those then getting into Peter’s wagon and trying to drive away with it.
Robert FJDeBlvis (sworv) —I left town at 6.30 that evening. At the coraer of Spring Park Road 1 saw sa large crowd opposite Thornes. It seemed to me to be a general scuffle from where I was. I went towards the scene and saw the deceased JWm Proud, in a wagon with his head hanging over the side and some‘one bathing his face. I turned around to ask about the row and when I looked back they were taking him out of the wagon. I went close to him and noticed the cut on bis nose, and there seemed to be much blood j about his mouth. [ saw tbe pallor of death come over his face wh:le 1 was there I caw Daniel Carroll. He was vot at all excited. I spoke to him. [ also saw Trainor. He was in his shit sleeves on the platform in front of Thorne’s and very much excited. I also saw John Proud
there. Did not see Thorne nor Edward nor John Hughes. Did not see any blows struck.
Annie Garrick, (sworn)—I live nearly opposite Thorne’s. Between 6 and 7 o’clock I saw the carriage opposite Thorne’s. I saw John Trainor take his coat off. After that he and Hughes got into the carriage. They trove down tne street aad ca ce hack to Ihorue’s, where they got out. I saw there was ascuffl2 but could not see wuo was striking or being struck as there was a large crowd. George Thorne and Edward Hughes were there.
Phcebe Reid, (swora)—I live opposite Thorne’s. I saw the carriage opposite my front door. I saw Trainor hit Peter Proud. I eaw George Thorve afterwards in the crowd strike, but could not tell who
he struck. Did rot see Eiward Hughes nor Daniel Carroll. They may have been there.
Mrs. Reid, (sworn)—I saw Wm. Proud fall. There were lots of blows struck, but I could not tell by whom! owing tothe crowd, In this last ecuffle I saw John Trainor and George Thorne. I saw Wm. Proud about five minutes after he was

When I got up to Thorne’s the firet fight was over and the wagon had started off towards Carr’s but came hack right away, and stopoed in front of Thorne’s, 1 was standirg at the corner of Thorne’s house near the carriage. Thetwo Prouds and George Rodd were in the carriage. They all got out and came up to the. housee Wm Prond came over tome, he koaew me well and he said ‘‘who hit me.” He was bleed~ ‘ne T told him, “I did not know William, I was not here, you bad better get into vour wagon and go home.” Peter and Rodd were right behind him. Joe McAleer and Edward Hugbes and I were talking togeth~ er when they came up. John Trainor and George Thorne were in Thorne’s gangway. Peter Proud said something to John Trainor and the two of them went intoa fight at once. Thorne caught hold of Trainor to part them. Geo Rodd said to yart them. They were just over the sidewalk near the house, in the lane. The crowd gathered in*and Wm Proud who was behind them ontside the eidewalk was struck by somebody I could not tell by whom, as mv back was turned and I was watching Thorne trving to part Traivor and Peter Proud. I did not see

possible that Thorne might have struck Wm Proad. Whea I turned round to look at Wm Proud he was getting up and walking to his carriage—about four yards —and got into it.
