Brennan, of Parkside farm, Sum- merside, a noted horse breeder and « Ken- tuckian by birth, says the Island is the best place on earth for horse-raising, and far superior tu the famous ‘“‘ blue grass’’ region. Blue grass, according to Mr. B., is the only grass that will stand the great heat and dry- ness of the Kentucky summer, while in P. E. Island the clover and grasses are of the most nourishing nature.

Mr. Unsworth is preparing a model of his patent electric semaphore for the St. John Exhibition. By means of this inven- tion a perfect block system is established whenever required at a moment’s notice. A broken down train, for instance, can at once close the track, front and rear, against all traffic without resorting to the present mode of sending out signal men. The sys- tem, which works, the inventor claims, as well in win:er as in summer, can be operat- ed from any point along the line. It has been favorably commented on by all rail- way men who have examined its workings.

The doors are made in two sections ; the upper half may be open all the time and horses viewed by visitors whether the attendants are present or not. | The sheds for cattle, sheep and swine are ‘convenient, spacious and arranged so that , no animal will be inthe least exposed to the inclemency of the weather. The poultry house is constructed so that the fowls {will be subject to no inconvenience in re- ceiving food and water, and their ad- mirers will have every opportunity for see- ing them which good space and light can fford—something which is ahead of the' {famous Toronto exhibition buildings. | | Flooring has been put down in the averues | ‘through the centre of the sheds in which ;animals are exhibited, so that visitors are | protected from dampness in case of rain. The owners of this driving park are also the exhibition association. They hold the pro- vincial exhibition annually, and the gov- ernment contributes $2,000 to the prize | list, on condition that the association adds | $1,000 for prizes for exhibits, in addition to any prizes for trotting competition. For the coming exhibition $4,000 in prizes are offered. It promises to be the most success- ful yet held on the [sland. Hon. Donald Ferguson, Provincial Secretary, to whom the Herald is indebted for many courtesies, says the crops will be exceedingly good. Potatoes are excellent and oats are a fair average ; though light in straw, they will be better in grain than last year. The wheat crop was never better in the history of the Island. Barley is excellent ; and the turnips never looked better. Quite a num- ber of silos are being erected, and a quan- tity of corn has been raised for ensilage.

As a summer resort during the months of July, August and September, Souris cannot be surpassed in any parts of the Maritime Provinces. For salt water batling it has few if any equals. Like Summerside, the town of Souris has its driving park, public building, churches and schools. Some of its capitalists have in- vested in stock-raising, by importing pure- bred horses and cattle from the best breed- ers in Canada and the United States—so that improvement in live stock all over the Province is receiving the best attention of all intelligent farmers.

The Colchester Sun thus sums up its re- port of the Trotting Park and Exhibition Grounds: ‘‘ Ina word, the grounds and buildings reflect great credit on the Prov- ince.”
