Tue ‘* Glorious Fourth’ was duly celebrat- ed yesterday at Westwood, the residence of Mr. H. H. Eldred, by a large party who en- joyed the festivities until a late hour. The shades of evening were illumined by fireworks and St. Peter's Boys Band discoursed sweet music.

Mr. NATHANIEL FRASER, a native of Char- lottetown, but for several years past em- ployed as engineer on the Panama Railway, and who has been spending a few weeks among his friends in this city, was among the passengers on the early train this morning en route to Panama.

Noan’s Ark at Carats.—A Calais man who believes that the appearance of the al- leged Star of Bethlehem is an omen of the destruction of the world by another deluge, has built an ark, and improved on Noah's pattern by fitting it with wheels. It also has a brick chimney and fire places in its three rooms on the first floor.

Personau.—Miss Tillie Hyndman, who has been spending several months in Dakota and Manitoba, returned home last evening. She was accompanied by Mrs. Daniel A. Mac- donald, of Portage la Prairie. Mrs. Mac- donald comes on a visit to her father, David Rogers, Esq., of Summerside. Both ladies are hale and hearty, and speak in the highest terms of their friends in the Northwest. They returned by the C. P. R. and the Lakes. The scenery by this route is grand. The cars and steamers are splendid and the most comfort- able kind.

Tur French warship Clorinde sailed from Halifax on Saturday to join other vessels of the French fleet at Sydney. The Sydney Advocate says: *‘The French flagship Minerve arrived in port on Sunday and will remain until the 10th of July. Admiral Vigne and all on board express themselves delighted to once more anchor in the superb harbor of Sydney and enjoy its beauties. Their stay is shorter this year than usual, as Admiral Vigne wishes to be in St. Pierre on the I4th July to celebrate the anniversary of the French republic. The Minerve will probably leave Sydney on or about the 10th Jaly. After leaving St. Pierre, she will visit the principal places in the Gulf. She will re- main in Montreal long enough toenable Ad. miral Vigne to avail himself of the opportunity of seeing the Rockies,
