Annual Meeting Bloomfield llnited

-- The annual meeting of the ilinnmfleld United Church was held in the Young Peoples Union room of the Church on Wednesday at- ternoon, Jan. 9th with the Minis- tcr. Rev. W. G. Dickson of O'Leary presiding. The minutes were read iv the secretary-treasurer. Regin- olri F. MacAusland. and were ap- proved.

The Sunday School report was rrrsented by the Superintendent. Mr. John R. Dignan. There was an :'.'craf:e attendance of twenty-five students divided into four classes. The teachers are Mr. and Mrs. A.W. Cmsweil, Mrs. R.F. MacAusland and Mr. J.R. Dignsn.

The Young Peoples Union report was presented by Mrs. A.W. Cras- urll. They raised 3204.13 and spent 3194.14. They have a. membership cf twenty-one. They gave fifteen cnltnrs to the Missionary and Main- trnance Fund and spent 8138.25 on covering the cushions of the C1-uirch seats.

Mrs. E.R. MscAusland presented tho report of the Women's Mission- ary society as follows: - W.M.S. Auxiliary 3272.88: Mission Band 37000: Baby Band 316.00, a total of 5358.86. In addition an Expense Fimrl of 522.47 was raised and par- cco sent to Labrador. Korea anti m.-placed persons in Halifax. and the total value of the above par- (c's was 3180.00.

The secretary-treasurer then gave his report. It showed good work done and fine amounts raised. The donominatiomil funds such as the Conference. Presbytery. P911510" and Manse Funds were paid in full. The meeting thanked Mr. Mac- Ausland for his painstakinlt WOW and conscientious and efficient ser- vice during 1951 and unanimously re-appointed him.

The Minister spoke on "Steward- rhm" and showed how by flied!" anil giving the tenth of one's in- come. and by canvassing by N"? rncwards. more could be rlilsed 10? the Master's service.

The next meeting will be at the home of Mrs. S. R. Burke with Mrs. Henry Myers and Mrs. Mer- ritt Callaghan on the lunch com- mittee.

Early yesterday morning the home of Mr. Joseph Woods. Broekton. near Bloomfield, was destroyed by fire with nothing being saved. Mr. Woods, who liv-

ed alone. was asleep and un- aware that the house was on fire until alarmed by ii nearby

Alberton Town Council Meeting Last Night

At the January meeting of the Alberton Town Council held in the Court House last night the follow- inrr officers elected at a reorganiza- tion meeting of the fire brigade in November. were approved by the council: 'Fire chief -- J.C. It was I very rough game with eight penalties being handed out by referee James Kinch. five to Summerside and three to Alber- ton. On numerous other occasions brawls were indulged in but. no penalties were awarded.

The first period ended with the score tied 1-1 with S. Murphy of the Rcgals getting the first count- er assisted by M. Kinch at the seven-minute mark. Deighan of Summerside. with the assist go- ing to Mooney. tied up the game for the period at 14.20.

In the second period the All- Stars crowded the Regals' net all through the period and chalked up four goals to the Begals' two to end the period 5-3 for Summer- side with no penalties despite some exceedingly rugged play on both sides. I

the time has come when the City must purchase a new tractor. which he felt is essential every month of the year.

some years ago the City had been fortunate in obtaining a. sec- ond hand tractor from the Gov- ernment. but it is now practically past its usefulness and would 'cost entirely too much to repair, as it would have to be rebuilt.

The possibility of working the men of the streets department in three shifts of eight hours each was raised by Councillor C.M. Cox. He noted that. some of the men had worked as much as six- teen hours at a stretch during the snow removal operations. Mayor Stewart approved the suggestion and said he would gzve the matter consideration. Previously. to the annual meeting of the before Jan. 25th.

The guestion of meat inspection in the City was raised by Council- lor Wendell Beaten. Mayor stew- art said that a meeting is to be held in the near future with the Provincial Department of Health, when the complete revision of the City health ordinances will be considered.

Mr. st. Laurent and his cabinet may have told the Britons that Canada has agreed to field a div- ision in Europe within a matter of months after any outbreak of war there. This country already has a brigade. roughly one-third of a division. in Europe.
