The Hull Disaster.

Loss From $300,000 to $500,000. --THE BURNSD DISTRICT A MILE LONG BY 400 YARDS WIDE—WOODEN TENEMENTS-——NO INSURANCE TO SPEAK OF.

The city of Hull is in ruins, at least fully one hal’ of it. The fire broke out in a house occupied by B. Sabourin, on Bridge street ¢€ ist. on the 21st inst. and owing to a high windjspread rapidly, both in a north- erly anc easterly direction. Despite every means available the flames could not be checke:! in their fiery march, and building after building was destreyed. The houses were vith few exceptions light wooden ones, and furnished the best of waterial for the con lagration.

Several lives are known to be lost. Whilst reports are current that at least a dozen have perished, it is known positively that a woman named Latremouille and

another name Geyette were burned, also a}

man named Cuellatte ; the woman Latre- mouille was. confined and was unable .to leave the house; Ouelette Was seen rushing from his blazing dwelling into the street and falling dead ; he was terribly burned. Numerous accidents occurred. The area of ground over which the fire travelled is a mile long by 409 yards wide, and to-night the smouldering flames tell too well of their devastation. In numerous cases the occu- pants saved their furniture, which is now piled on the public streets. Horses, cows, and pigs as well as ether domestic animals perished.
