Quire a curiosity in the hen line has lately , appeared at Alberry Plains. <A few days ago the school teacher of the place, while walking around the premises of his boarding-master, Mr. Thos. P. Richards, was surprised to see a hen fly down from a large tree. On looking up the tree he saw something mysterious about seventeen feet from the ground, and on ascending found a nest in which were six large hen eggs. Why the hen chose such a place for her nest is a puzzle te everybody. ae

The most destructive hailstorm ever known in Minnesota, passed over St. Paul on the afternoon of the Ist inst. The, weather was exceedingly sultry until about | six o'clock, when a terrible tornado sprang | up. For a few minutes rain fell in tor-| rents, alld was succeeded by a remarkable | fall of hailstones for about thirty minutes. | Some of the stones were thirteen inches in circumference, and weighed from four to five ounces. One of them went through the thick plate glass in the rotunda of the Royal | Hotel, shivering it to pieces About one hundred and fifty to two hundred panes of glass were broken in each block, lumber | piles were scattered and several frame houses on the outskirts were overturned. There is an unconfirmed report thata woman was killed by falling timbers. A remarkable feature of the storm is that the mercury did not fall after the cessation | of the rain. Nearly every public buildiug | in the city suffered more or less. The State capital looks as though a gatling gun had been trained orffit.
