By JIM: ANDERSON - LONDON (CP) — Britain's top motor rally, the Royal Automobile Club's 2,400-mile event, is on. for November after months of doubt whether it would be ‘held this year.

A London newspaper, The Sun, has. come to the finan: | cial rescue of the rally, which was threatehed’. with extine- * tion ‘by increased costs. .

Almost 200 production and grand touring cars, with. some of the world's top rally driv- ers aboard, will leave London airport Nov. 19 for the five- day test which runs west to Wales, north to Scotland and back: along England's coast to London.

It is the only British event counting toward the-European rally championship.

The route includes about 500 miles of speed trials through forests and hills over private roads —_ some of them little “more than trails. While costs have\been rising as the pop- ularity “of. the 18 - year - old event grew> it was the pri- vate roads that brought the, real financial pinch.
