ANSWER: I am afraid you must, if you marry at-nll. for the un- kissed man is one of those rare phenomena of nature of which we hear occasionally, but which most of us never see. The wall garden type} is the easiest to construct and the first problem is site and soil.

I have found the Dianthus and Pink family to be the very finest for the rock wall, the gray green fol- iage is so attractive all year and the blooms are fragrant and dif- ferent, they are easily grown from seed and divisions. Aubretia. comes very light green foliage with purple mauve, blue and rose flowers. it blooms over a long period and ls easily divided. I have grown mine from seed.

A POSSIBLE CAUSE OF APPENDICITIS

Many years ago. a young physic- ian stated that he believed that ap- pendicitis was due to constipation especially in cases where there was much gas pressure in the bowel. This gas pressure against the open- ing of the appendix into the bowel prevented organisms in the appen- dix from being drained into the bowel. Because these organisms were unable to get. out of the closed appendix, wastes (poisons) from the-m caused inflammation of the lining of the appendix, and thus appendicitis.

Because further evidence or in- formation regarding this cause of appendicitis was not forthcoming from other physicians and surgeons, nothing more was thought about it. A somewhat similar suggestion that the Ofgfllllltjl which is found nor- mally in the large bowel, the colon basillus. may be a. predisposing ‘cause of appendicitis is suggested by Dr. F. Kauffinan in the "Swiss Journal of Pathology and Bacter- iology," Basel, Switzerland.

Slips of Pclzirgoiiium or Lady Washington gcrniilums have been potted up to bring indoors and many others nre rcztly, Itiore Phlox has been divided and bor- ders are ltcing prepared to take many perennials and biennlals from the field, and the early maple tree is in lovely autumn color.

Melt chocolate in top of dou- ble boiler. Add sugar and water. an: mix well. Remove fro-n heat. Stir gradually into egg yolks and beat smooth with spoon. Cool. We fancy that Pat would like to have been present at the saving of the wheat.

I-Iis face came to mind, when we recalled 1t was in this very field last year and on his knees at the picking, we had found hlm when with granddaughter, a wee lass. we had come there to beg a few potatoes from him, for the fam- ily's dinner. And we remember. then as now September was on the hills and along the country- side, and although it was still and beautiful, we knew there would be no last to it, that by day and night farm folks and their lands were being moved steadily towards year's end.

If Pat had been at the saving today, it would doubtless have re- turned old scenes to mind, of days which with James we are pleased to recall. Of u period of farming when in importance, the wheat surpassed the other grains. On it, depended the family's sus- tenunce. From it, came the staff of life-the bread. At threshing- time the wheat wits the precious grain, some of it saved in "the old piano crate" in a granary, in store against the seeding and flour for the months to come, but always some went into the clean white sacks to be taken perhaps "in the

The threshing was clone by horse power then, with a great clatter of gear and some anxiety over the teams‘ behaviour as they walked endless miles on the tread- mill. James can remember it to re- late to Jamie on a Winter night. how "the old mare of all",used to enjoy her spell there. "She didn't even have to be tied—walked on and off, herself, and seemed to be rather proud of it." But then she being much respected in memory "was as knowing as a man."
