THe Weatner.—An Annapolis, N. S. weather prophet tells us that midwinter will give us an extremely cold snap with but little storm. The quantity of snow and rain fall for the whole season will be considerably below the average. Ix Traisisa.— We learn from the Agricul- twrist that Mr. H. B. Smith, of this city, has placed his three-year-old Hernando, H. B. S., in the hands of Mr. W. A. Noonan, of Sum- merside, for development. H. B. S. is a handsome specimen of hopseflesh. He is a rich bay with black points, is 16 hands, strong, has a finely proportioned hody and beautiful neck, and smooth, clean limbs. His style and action are all that can be desired in a perfect roadster; at the same time he is pronounced by all trainers who have hand- led him, to be one of the speediest sons of Hernando, if not in fact the speediest, yet bred in this Province,

Trortixe.—The Agriculturist reports that a trotting race between W. B. Bowness’ bay mare, A. G. Rogers’ chestnut gelding Gold

Dust, James Tuplin’s bay mare and C. Arsen- ault’s black gelding, cam> off on Summerside harbor ice on Wednesday last. The race was mile heats, best two in three, fer a purse of five dollars divided. The first heat was easily won by Bowness’ mare, followed by Gold Dust, with Tuplin’s mare third, and Arsen- ault’s gelding in the rear. The second heat was a repetition of the first, as to places, but was closely contested, and some very pretty trotting was done. —_o-——-

If the Y. M. C. A. in connection with whose work it has already been mentioned, or the Literary and Scientific Institute do not take up the work, then let a committee of citizers undertake it with promptness and energy.
