Novel Cure for Delirium Tremens.

Justice H. C. Casey, of Tompkins- ville, L. L, was seated in his office the other evening,when a mar who said his name was Browa came, in and sated that he wanted an officer to arrest another man who was constantly fol- lowing him about witha shot-gun and threatening murder. Squire Casey saw at once that Mr. Brown was in a wild state of delirium tremens, but that it was not adesperate case. The squire turned to Constable McVey, who was in the room, and ordered him to go out and arrest the supposed murderous artillery man and bring him into the back yard, where they would saw him in two. Constable McVey was told quietly by the justice to go out in the yard and fix some wood in the sawbuck, which he did. The rest of the novel cure for delirium tremens was told by the justice.

“T had just got in a full cord of un- split wood. Constable McVey fixed a log of it ia the sawbuck and led the shivering Mr. Brown out to it. McVey told the fellow that there was his man lying there, and to take the saw and saw him in two. Brown went to the task with a will. When he had got through ene log he was given another one, the constable remarking as he adjusted each log that the saw had slipped.

“Tt was a warm night, and the per- spiration rolled off Brown in torrents. The whiskey was working out of his system and brain at an equally rapid rate. Bat a man who has taken s0 much that he has the “ horrors” must work out a good deal before he is aware of it. So Mr. Brown went on hou after hour sawiog log after log. He worked up half my pile of wood. I told McVey to stand by, and myself and neighbors, who kad been watching the novel cure, went to bed at midnight with Brown still hard at work. In the morning [ was told by the constable that the patient had come to his senses about two o’clock, and had then gone into a sound sleep, from which it is likely he will awake feeling natural, and with a fine appetite. I guess good, honest, and hard work would cure a good many other men who are suffer- ing from tarrying about gin-mills too much.” —N. Y. Graphic.

The Blossom of Youth.

The Irish have the following curions legend respecting what they call ‘‘blaiad na oze,”’ in other words, “blossom of youth.” An Irishman at one period went to Denmark,where he was hospit- ably received, much to his astonish- ment. Hewas taken into immediate favor by those among whom he visited. He was told that in a certain part of the country of Limerick, from which it appears he came, there was a crock of gold hidden under a white thorn bush in a garden, which was so clearly pointed out to him, that there could be no mistaking the locality. He was further told that among the gold was a remarkable circular piece of coin, with which he should return to Denmark,but that he might become the possessor of all the gold in the crock with the ex- ception of that peculiar circular coin.

The Irishman was obedient to the letter. He returned to Denmark with the circular piece, and kept for himself all but that. The Danes were rejoiced. A very aged dane having been rubbed with the wonderful circular piece of gold, he at once became young again, fresh and vigorous as in the days of his boyhood. So with other Danes. “You have brough back,” said they, “the biaiad no oze, the blossom of youth,and Ireland shall be poor evermore.”— “Martin” in Tid-Bits.

Within the past ten years, instead of making strong books and sirong meat for the mind, our publishers have been giving us decoration books, all bursting with illustrations, sensuous things, that catch the eye and do not minister to the sou!. You can not make a literature in your country without sitting sincerely down before it, working for long re- sults, working carefully, with contiau- ity, and as other men have made litera- tures, Youcan not muke literature with magazine articles, you can not make it with pictures. After the litera- ture is made your artist can come along and illustrate successive editions of your author, but I never heard of pictures carrying the author to the seventh heaven with them.

Literature will never amount to any- thing in this country as long as it is made a sort of button hole boquet car- 1ied into some prominence by a flimsy society. The honest characters which should in their interminglings make American literature,are not to be found around delicate dinner services. You will find them eating off blue china in the vales of your country. You will find them in the shops, aleng the sea- sides—and even in the jails.—Letter in Boston Globe.

This valuable experience should be sufficient evidence of their durability, which is accounted for in the following :—It has, instead of a Linea Fire Box, two heavy Currugated Cylinders, which obviate the expense connected witn all Square Cooking Stoves of being compelled to renew Linings and Grates, at least once or twice every year, The heat being radiated from the Cylin- ders to the floor, where most needed, overcomes a _ serious objection to all kinds of ordinary Coal Cooking S‘oves. The Cylinders are situated direcily under the cover holes, and a fire may be made in one or both, thus adapting it for use either in winter or summer, with equal satistaction, besides effecting a great saving to fuel. I have aleo attached the PATENT TELESCOPI® OVEN to all my Elevated Oven Wood Stoves, such a8 the Waterloo, Niagara, Star, &c, causing the thousands using them to exclaim—My Stoves are worth TEN DOLLARS MORE than the same kind made by other foundries.
