'Departmental Changes In ‘Eastern Fisheries Areas Announced By Minister

OTTAWA. The three re. clonal supervisors will be ‘tinder the general direction of the chief supervisor for the division but; Mr. Bridges said it was believed that the new plan of having on officer in charge in each province would’ make for more effective handling of regional problems.

Coupled with the readjustment rf areas. Mr. Bridges said. there has been promotion and reassign. nient of a number of the depart- ment's officers in the Mnritimag and with avlew to strengthening the field force 85 new inspectors have, also been selected and are being placed at various points. The. new appointees. all of them war veterans, recently completed a special course of fisheries train- ing which all candidates for these positions were required to trike. A similar course was re- cently given ln British Columbia where some 4O new officers are also being appointed as another step in the programme of depart- mental reorganization. both in the field and at headquarters. which is now under way.

As for reassignments and pro- motions within the service. the minister said. the Eastern Divis- ion will now be headed by E. D. Fraser, of Pictou. N. 5.. who auc- ceeds A. L. Barry. now director o! eastern fisheries at depart- mental headquarters at Ottawa. 111'. Fraser has recently been act- ing as chief supervisor and for a number of years past he had been district supervisor for the eastern mainland of Nova Scotia.

Regional Supervisors

The regional supervisors will be. for Nova Scotia. William McAulay ivho has been for some years dis-' trlci. supervisor in Cape Breton: for New Brunswick, L. H. Parks, hitherto a district supervisor in that province; and. for Prince Edward Island. the present. dis- trict. supervisor in the province. J. J. Larabee. The regional offic- es will be at the respective pro- vincial capitals.

Another new position. assistant chief supervisor for the division. is being filled by the promotion of Prank E. Justason. Black's Harbour. N.B., at present district supervisor for southwestern New Brunswick. Attached to divisional headquarters. now at Halifax. there will also be two senior in- spectors. Grade 2~S. J. Humans. who will have the general over- sight of fish inspection services throughout the Maritimes, and Forrest Watson. at. present dist- rict supervisor for western Nova Scotia. Mr. Watson will be con- cerned with supervision of tech- nlcal training.
