I would to discuss ‘ some of issues he has addressed in this article to our administration. ‘ We all know the Security Dept. is essential to the daily operation of UPEI. In particular, ' Mr. MacLeod, Security Chief; is a vital part of this service. For anyone to say'that

"the head of the security Sept. cannot V even write his own name" is both unjustified and totally lacking in respect. Mr. MacLeodr is both a capable and responsible individual, which reflectsin his recent appointment

as president of the Chiefs of Police .‘ssociation for PEI. The job‘of security as a whole is to enforce the regulations of this university, and of course, the issuing of parking tickets is one of these responsibilities They don't just "do it tomake on they are doing semething", for if they ignored parking violations can you imagine the chaos that would exist? How can ' Mr. Carroll say that "nobody ever pays these tickets anyhow"? I can assure you that those people with a "clean slate" have paid the fines! ' \ - Another issue which Mr. Carroll seems to lack understanding of are

the proposals which he says Dr.Meincke brought up a month agO! Where has Mr. carroll been? The proposals were ‘ brought up by a committee of four: Dean Douling, Dean Ledwell, Dean Revell and Mr. Clo‘tlgh, who spent a great deal of time and effort in

attempting to find a solution to foreseeable financial troubles of

Mr. Carroll knows so much about rtmning a university, I'm all for having him

as our next president.

‘But in the meantime I

suggest he do a little l'rmework.

Andrwhat about the manner in $133017 Mr. Carroll chastises the Maintenance Dept. and the bald head who hired an} fired him? Did Mr. Carroll;feel that he was hired for the job of supervisor? I am certain he did not take responsibility for

any unsatisfactory jobs

that were done over the two summers he worked for maintenance! Which

' leads me to another

question: Where does he get his information that over the half the trees planted by Island Nursery this past summer were dead, and the rest were run over by cars? Is he so naive as to’ even consider that this could happen and be gotten away with? Although Mr. Carroll says "we don't even care for then (the trees) "

I feel his generalizations are based on personal opinions.

When Mr. Carroll says that head residents

try to beheros by picking on people the other head residents don't .like, .I wonder if I'm

in university or kinder- garten. Although Mr. Carroll obviously feels otherwise, I believe

a hero (or heroine) is more likely to be some— / one admired for his (her) achievements and noble qualities than for his (her) bullyness.

I musn't close without mentioning the uncenp— limentary remarks

which Mr. Carroll has directed to Mr. Griffin, head of student services. "this guy", as Mr. Carroll calls him, does not go against the students he is there to help. On the contrary he is quite outgoing and extremely cooperative. How can you say that "only two

In conclusion, I would like to say that nobody is perfect. We all do our best, and obviously that varies from indiv— idual to individual, depending on their talents and abilities.

I feel, as Mr. Carroll feels, that our admin- istration has its problems ‘to contend with but at the same time, I realize they need the support of the university body if they are going to function efficiently. So let's not make bitter accusations and angry remarks that only deepen the wound of the party. involved. Let's criticize in a manner that is both constructive and effective in bringing about the changes we feel will make this university a better

I felt compelled to get ' out my note paper and make a few comments on one of your columns in the SUN, Volume #14. Mr. Carrol's cements in "Issues on the System" are not general criticisms, but tunsubstantiated attacks: on specific employees of U.P.E.I. I feel this type of vicious gossip is in bad taste.
