With such equip- ment to start with the upkeep and maintenance should not bc great. A good teacher is also necessary and the district has a good one 1n Miss Douglas. The parents also can help by encouraging their children to do the right kind of reading. Refer- ring to the Carnegie Library Instit- ute, the speakcr said that good books were now available to all free of cost, and he urged the people to make use of them.

They wouldbecome accustomed to work in a tidy building and the habit of keeping their surroundings clean would be formed so that it would stay with them in their later life.

Hon. Dr. MacMiJlan said that it was. the first time that he was pres- cnt at the opening of a new school building, and he considered it an honor and a privilege to be present. The erection of this building shows that the people are interested in the work of education in the province. Referring to the value of good teachers he paid tribute to two teachers which he had studied un- dcr at Prince of Wales College duv- ing his student days there, Dr. S. N. Robertson and H. H. Shaw are the only two who are still in harness and he was glad that they were still kceping up the good work which they were doing in those days.

There is alive in the province an insistent demand for the best that can be procured in the matter cf education and the present fine new structure was evidence of this fact. The furniture, heating, etc, was good and the teacher was also a capable one, so that the pupils should give good results.
