(3.) Upon every such plot of land ex- ceeding in value the sum of $500 and not exceeding in value the eum of $1,000, the sum of $2.00.

(4.) Upon every such plot of land ex- ceeding in value the sum of $1,000 and not exceeding in value the eum of $1,500, the sum of $3.

(5.) Upon every such plot of Jand ex- ceeding in vaiue the sum of $1,500 and not exceeding in value the sum of $2,000, the sum of $4.06.

(6.) Upon every such plot of land ex- ceeding in value the sum of $2,000 and

the sum of $5.00.

(7.) Upen every such plot of land ex- ceeding in value the enm of $2,500, the sum of $6.00.

12. In valuing the said small plots of land hereinbefore referred to, the value shall be taken including the value of any buildings that may be upon the said plot.

This resolution was discussed by Messre, Bell, Rogers (Abberton) Sinclair, A. Peters, F. Peters and Warburton, in the order named.

Resolved, that the statute to be passed contain provisions for valuing the land to be taxed, and for the collection of the tax, and the cost of collection, as against per- sons who make default in payment of said tax.

Trouble Among Firemen.

There is trouble among the firemen here. Most of them petitioned that Chief

Lipset be retired and one Stockforn ap- pointed in his place. But the common council has reappointed Lipset. It is said that twenty of the firemen have re- signed in consequence.
