Last weekend was a good one for the UPEI Soc- cer Panthers as they lost to first-place UNB on Satur- day and tied UCCB on Sun- day.

On Saturday the Soc- cer Panthers ran into a very hot University of New Brunswick Redshirt squad who are presently in first place in AUAA West divi- sion. David Foley scored both goals for UNB in the first half. Sandwiched be- tween Foley's two goals was a goal by Richard Pierre- Giles on a penalty kick. The second half of the game was scoreless but there was exciting action as the Pan- thers stormed the UNB net

Phil Muise kept turning aside any UNB challenges. The Soccer Panthers played probably their best game of the year and they appeared to be up for the game. The game was very rough as these two very aggressive teams squared off. This was evident in the amount

SOCCER PANTHERS HAVE VERY STRONG WEEKEND

of roughness shown in the field especially by the New Brunswick squad. In the end UNB managed to hold on for a 2-1 victory. On Sunday the thers got off to a slow start against the Univer- sity College of Cape Bre- ton as they trailed 2-0 at the half. In the second half the Panthers came out fly- ing as rookies Chuck Arse- nault and Scott Farrell tied the score at 2-2, The Pan- thers had a number of great scoring opportunites in the dying seconds but came up short of scoring the winner.

Next action for the Soccer Panthers is today’ Thursday October 8 as the Panthers host Mount Al- lison Mounties who beat the Panthers two weeks ago in Sackville 3-2. A win for the Panthers who put them back in the hunt for a playoff spot. On Sat- urday the Panthers travel to Saint John were they will play the University of New Brunswick in what promises to be a hot affair.
