Sir,—In last night’s issue of your pe per I was surprised to find the following letter, end if you will kindly grant me space I would like to make a few remarke ccn- cerning it and its writer :

As a Catholic, and on bebalf of the Catholics of Charlottetown, I challenge him to come out, man- fashion, over his own signature, and name the office he means, and I will name as many Catholics as he wishes capable of filling that office. But I will vot promise that they would be contemptible enough to accept that office,

DEERING PRIZES AT PARIS.

The Deering Harvester Company re ceived notification from abroad that it was awarded the grand prize, as well as two gold end one silver medal, at the Paris Exposition. These were the highest awards obtainable.

The six Deering exbibits excited much comment, not only from American and fo-eign visitors, but were inspected by President Loabert in person, who com- plimented Mr. James D-*rirg upon the enterprise displayed by the. rca: manu facturing company of whch ue is a mem ber.

The Deering Harvester Company was designated by the French Government to make the retrospective exhibit of harvest ing machinery, showing the improvements in tbat line during the past century. This exhib't was the moet complete ever at« tempted, aod probably no one ever again will be willing to expend the amount of money 4nd patience arcessary to equal it

In addition, the Deering Harvesting Company exhibited in the United States annex a full line of the machines manu~ factured by itas well as a separate ex- hibit of twine, showing the process of cultivating fibres and manufacturiog them into tbis important staple.

A number of automatic metal working machines, such as are employed in the Deering shops, were exhibited. Some of these machice; do the work of fifteen hands.

One of the features of the now famous corn=kichen was & miniature Deering corn barvester, illustrating the method of harvesting corn in America.

Tne model of the Deering Harvester works, of which there were two, were 80 unique and interesting thatone of them was installed in the Department of Civil Engineering. Farm Implement News, Chicago.
