various grades of medals he eo generously gave them. These youthful but dead in earnest prohobitroy orators have appealed to audiences aggregrating millions of citi- zens.

Mr. Demorsest was welcome and the centre of attraction when present at con- tests for the higher grade of medals. His last visit was at the Diamond Medal Con- test for all new England held at the Northeast Chautauqua Sanday School As- sembly, Mass, July 13, 1894. No one pre- sent on that occasion will soon forget the great interest he manifosted in the repre sentatives of the various states as they so earnestly expressed his sentiments in their splendid and almost pathetic appeals to the large audience to ‘lend a hand’ in this great work. With voice brokeu with deep emotion, he presented the diamvuud medal to the successful contestant in “the best contest he had ever attended.’

He has gone from us; his work is done; but oh, what a grand record be has left iv trying “to make the world better” through this one agency alone.

Over forty-two thousand medals awarded over two hundred and fifty thousand of the flower of the youth of the youth of the world engaged in this grand reform, and they in turn appealing to audiences of over fifteen million people of the best class of citizens. Who can estimate the influence of this grand feature of temper ance work,

I am confident no person in the world has ever reached so many young people, individual hearts, lives and homes, or helped so many to decide once fur all their position of “right against wrong,” as W. Jennings Demorest by these same med- al contests, and eternity alone will revea' his good work.

All nationalities have been included in his benefaction no one excluded on account of creed, sect, sex, or color; his work and amb.tion was to lend a hand to the weak and oppresed, and Jift up humanity nearer to God.

His hand was outstretched, his parse open and his heart overflowing with love to all the oppressed of all natious from the drink curse.

His wo:k accomplished is the best monument he possibly can have. It will stand longer than a shaft of marble, for “though dead he yet speaketh.”

Oh! young men and women of the whole world, when the question comes ‘is the good work to cease?” reply in a voice that everybody may hear “Iam but one and cannot do everything, but I can do something, ‘shat I can do, I ougbt, and what I ought to d», with the help of God, I will do- for prohibition.”
