Says Causeway Within Bounds ' of Feasibility

SEIGNIOBY CLUB. Que. (CPl The Canadian fishing industry asked the federal government Friday to amend regulations gov- erning fishing in eastern coastal waters to give Canadian nationals the same privileges enjoyed by craft of foreign registry.

The request was contained in one of s doaen resolutions passed by the Fisheries Council of Can- ada at the final session of its an nual meeting here.

The resolution said that for many years Canadian-owned and operated fishing craft over 65 feet in length have been prohibited from fishing in waters off the eastern Canadian coast which are open to foreign vessels.

There is evidence. the resolu- tion said. of intensified fishing by craft of foreign registry in the coastal waters. Continuation of the federal prohibition discrim- inates against an increasingly im- portant section of Canada's com- mercial flshlng industry.
