Attention: Robert J. Kelley, a Junior Biology Major from West Royalty, has officially announced his. candidacy for the position of President of the U,P.E.I. Student Union. Rob brings with him both experience and a serious commit- ment to his pursuit of this position.

In the past year Rob has served as one of the two Science Representatives of U.P.E.I.’s Stu- dent Council. Also during this time, he has served as P.E.1.’s lone representative on the National Ex- ecutive of the ‘Canadian Federation of Students. Rob believes that his experience in these positions has given him the background

Referring to his commitment to office, Rob stated, “I don't have any ideas which could be described as radical or extreme, but I do have the desire to put an honest effort into the position.” He added, “We'd all.like to see increased par- ticipation in things such as Winter Carnival, The Gem, CIMN. and

the Yearbook. The need for higher visibility and an upgrading of the services presently offered by the Student Union is frequently men- tioned as a problem. These are issues that seem to be with us every year and I certainly can't promise to solve all'the annual problems, nobody can, but I can guarantee I'd give them my best effort.”

As for the upcoming year, Kelley commented, “There are a few specific issues which will demand immediate attention. For example,

it looks as if we will soon have the opportunity to change the SU medical plan. The new plan would hopefully be both cheaper and easier to use.” Rob believes that a problem which should soon be ad- dressed is the present seating ar- rangement at U.P.E.l. sporting events, especially. hockey and basketball games. “Obviously with the size of our present facilities there is going to be seating pro- blems, but students should be receiving higher priority than they do now.” e

~ This candidate fully realizes his limitations, remarking, “ I wouldn't expect, to accomplish everything I'd like to and I can’t perform any miracles, but given the chance, I know I can do an ef- fective job.”

I feel that I am qualified for this position because for the past two summers | have worked at a sum- mer establishment doing such financial duties as treasurer of Stu- dent Union.

This year elections will be held on March 12th and 13th with speeches by candidates in library

Maureen Fleming

Hello, my name: is Maureen Fleming and | am a third year Arts student majoring in English. | am running for the position of Student Union President. The president is responsible for the integration and direction of all activities of the U-P.E.I.S.U. As members of the Student Union, students are responsible for the election of can+ didates for the positions in Council, Senate and Executive. The most important contribution a student can make is to get involved. By at- tending the speeches on March 11 at 11:30 in the Robertson Library Lounge. Voters will learn more about the people who will be runn- ing the Student Union. The elec- tions will take place March 12 and 13 and I urge all students to vote.

My previous involvement with the Student Union has included two consecutive years on the

Orientation Committee, Co- Chairperson of the Winter Carnival 1985, member of the Winter Car- nival 1986 and Fall Fest 1985. In the coming year there are several relevant issues which must be dealt with such as the developing of a better financial situation of the Stu- dent Union, increasing public in- terest in. CIMN, promoting U.P.E.I. as the site for the Cana- dian games, and searching for possible solutions for the housing of the Vet College students.

1am willing to dedicate my time and effort working towards these and other issues in the interests of students. | hope you will support

portantly I encourage everyone to get out and vote on March 12 and 13.

Maureen Fleming Presidential Candidate

There will be a General Meeting of the UPEISU on Tuesday, March 11 at 11:30 a.m. in the Robertson Library Student Lounge. The Meeting will consist of Execu- tive Reports, Campaign Speeches for executive positions next year, and a brief outline for four Con stitutional Amendments. Please try to attend if you can. .
