It was de- rided to sponsor a show at Yeo‘s Theatre in the near future, and all were asked to contribute fudge. The ladies volunteered to clean the church for the Enter reason. and purchase flowers to be placed on the altar for Easter. Menzies said Pet.rov's documents contain the names of Australians who were either contacts in the spy network or co-operated with its agents. The prime minister de- scribed Petrov's mission in Aus- tralia as carrying out the func- tions of the Soviet MVD, the state security agency.
Menzies said he will not release any names pending investigation. The persons involved, he added. are under surveillance by Austral- ian security officials.
Government ministers said names probably will not be made public until the investigating com- mission holds hearings.
Menzies said Petrov had asked to become an Australian citizen as soon as possible. and had said “I no longer believe in Communism since I have seen the Australian way of living.” Petrov had also asked for protection.

Mr. Macdonald entered hospital several days ago to be treated for what was described as "general fatigue." There were reports that he never completely recovered from a persistent cold contracted during I visit to Britain last fall.
Neither Mr. Macdonald's wife nor his four children were at the bedside when he ~died. Hospital authorities said he died "unexpect- cdly” in his sleep.

Observers attending legislature sittings last week remarked on the premier's tired appearance and there was widespread speculation then that he might shortly have to take a prolonged rest from duties made more arduous by his recent acquisition of the highways portfolio.
Mr. Macdonnld was born of poor parents in an isolated Caps Bre- ton village. He took with him when he left the rugged high- lands of Inverness county a Boot‘: love of tradition, ceremony and history.
He ordinarily exhibited an out- ward calm in his dealings with those near him but Nova scotiam admired and respected a fighting spirit that made its most memor- able impression during the Sec- ond World War when he clashed with the late Mackenzie King over the bitter conscription issue.
Mr. Macdonald openly supported fellow Nova Scotlan Col. J. L. Ralston on that contentious dis- pute and eventually won his argu- mcnt that volunteers alone were not enough to reinforce Canadian forces overseas during the latter stages of the war.
The premier made a pilgrimage to Scotland only last year to trump for the last time the hillsides and glens which his parents had left many years before. His fondness for ceremony was apparent when he solemnly scattered a handful of Nova Scotia soil from the ram- parts of Edinburgh Castle.
Mr. Macdonald headed the Can- adian navy department which emerged early in the war when this country had a naval service of only 2,000 men and a half-dozen

Gouzenko was asked if he had ever heard that the FBI wanted to make arrests in the U. B. as the results of his first revelations but had been prevented by other U. 8. authorities.
He said he had never heard that but he said he knew there had been an opportunity to arrest one
of those named, who “skipped away." As disclosed in the royal com-
mission report, this was a Rus- sian undercover agent in Los Angeles going under the name of Ignacy Witczak, who was using a spurious Canadian passport ob- tained by the spy ring.
In tabllng the report Tuesday, Justice Minister Garson said the "minor" deletions were made to eliminate references which might jeopardize Canadian security in- vestigations in Canada or might be open to question on grounds of "international propriety as relat- ing primarily to the interests of a third country."
The deletions in substance total 24 words. They consist of the names of five persons, the Id- drcss of one, the name of an organ- ization and a 10-word phrase.
Eight more words, consisting of duplications of some of these names, also are cut out.
