“Burp of life” could save cattle: Canadian cattle could soon be belching on one another in pursuit of better health.

Research carried out at Agriculture Canada’s Leth- bridge, Alta. , Research Station shows the practice may be an essential step in the fight against nitrite poisoning in cattle. The helpful bacteria, encouraged by an ammonia- producing feed additive, breaks down the deadly ni- [rites and are then conveyed from one cow to another through belching.
