Before he gets home to North Battleford for his leave he will probably be drafted to visit his native Nova Sootia to help with the Victory Loan drive. He said today he hopes the loan goes over the objective because he knows rom experience that it gives men overseas a llft to hear that Cana- dians at home have made another ban a success.

"It shows the folks at homo still have faith in us and are will- ing to put their money on us," he said.

Two emergency airdromes were marked out at Dieppe for the use of Canadian and British pilots who might get into trouble dur- ing the battle, Flt, Lt. McNair said. One was the race track back of the town and the other s. level piece of ground to the left of the town. near Puits where the Royal Regiment o! Canada took terrific losses in attempting to force a landing.

The airmen were ordered to make s forced landing if necessary at one 0f the points, low up their aircraft and join the troops.

At least one airman that he knew of made such a landing and got back to England with the Canadian ground forces. He said he believes PO. Paris Eakins of Winnipeg, former Winnipeg Free Press sports write,- who recently was reported missing, attempted to land at the Puits landing spot after the radiator of his plane was shot away by a German can- non shell.

As the Canadian troops never obtained control of that area, Flt. Lt. McNair added, he thinks Eak- ins was either killed or taken prisoner on his landing.

"Zllie Germans are great fight- ers but the Italians are not so hot" was the way McNair sized up the two air forces which attadzed Malta. Only Two Planes

At one stage during three "hot" months at Malta-March, April and May-the defenders were re- duced to two serviceable aircraft.

The bombing of the alrdromes caused the defenders comparativ- ely little trouble althou h they had to watch out for born holes all the time.

37 Bodies From Caribou Sinking Are Recovered
