But since that is not possible. i wish that you. the members. would visit the office more often. talk with the directors and staff more often. share in the hundreds of volun- teer jobs that need to be done by the Bureau-and i know that you will have the same feeling we have; that the Catholic Social Wel- fare Bureau is a good. and neces- sary. and useful institution. It is certainly one organization through which we can all discharge part of our duty to the poor in a wny we know pleasing to God."

The panel discussion o "The Deserted Family" was postponed for another special meeting. Mem- bers of the panel were Dr. Bren- don 0'Grady. chairman and Mr. Walter Baker. M.A. Farmer. J. E. Green and Dr. John Maloney.

Institute For Nurses Continues

On Wednesday. the second day of a three-day Institute for Nurses. an interesting panel discussion was presented by dietitians and nurses from the Charlottetown and Prince Edward island Hospi- tals. Newer trends in assisting di- abetic patients with meal planning was a highlight of the discussion. Emphasis was also placed on the dietary needs of geratic patients and ways and means of meeting these needs in a practical man- ner. The importance of proper psychological handling of these patients was stressed. 'The differences in the caloric In- take of a "motor - driven. TV- wstching" pqiulation as compar- ed with the caloric intake of peoples who are physically more active was discussed. it was force- fully brought to the attention of all that because we use up less energy than our grandmothers did. we are becoming a generation of women who are overweight. it was a sobering fact to learn that life insurance statistics evince shorter life lines for the obese. Following the presentation of "newer trends in nutrition," a most informative lectuer was giv- en by Dr. L8. Cox on the treat- ment of burns. Dr. Cox illustrated his lecture with colored slides on "burns treatment." He outlined steps in the nursing care of these patients. pointing out the initial importance of accuralh recording of fluid intake and output. He stressed the absolute '., for early treatment of burns to pre- sent severe shock and infection. Dr. Cox said. "l cannot stress too much that the best first aid for these patients is to bring them to
