Wurder Trial . in Child's Death

w'lN'DSOR. Ont. (OP) -- It is quite possible for infant's ribs to be broken by the application of artificial respiration by an amat- eur. the supreme court was told here -Thursday at the murder trial of Joseph Adams. 24.

Adams is charged with beating his six-weeks-old daughter. Debo- rah Ann. to death on the morning of April 28. He pleaded innocent.

Accused. facing policy testimony that he claimed he beat his child to death because she wouldn't stop crying. testified Wednesday that he had attempted to give he: artificial respiration after the child swallowed water during an early morning bath.

Mr. D. V. Hutton. Windaor Mai. atrician, was called by the defence this morning. and claimed that artificial respiration if applied by an amateur could easily break an infant's ribs. He said he had seen three such cases.

Previous medical evidence show- ed that the child died from in- ternal injuries, and that she had suffered broken ribs. Three doc- tnrs disagreed on whether the ribs could be broken by artificial. respiration.

Adams Wednesday told the jury how he found the baby girl "chok- ing and muttering" in the bath and tried to aid her by squeezing her stomach,

Dulles To Spee

Ten 'Copiers Added To Search. Rescue

OTTAWA (CP)-The RCA! is going to reinforce its search and rescue operations across Canada.

It announced Thursday the pur- chase of 10 Sikorsky S-55 helicopt- ers, to be stationed with various search and rescue units from coast to coast.

Six of the helicopters will have been delivered by late this month. Two more will arrive in October and the last two in November. All are expected to be in operational use by Christmas.

Twenty-four pilots will be trained on the new aircraft. Eight of them already are receiving training with Olsanagan Helicopter Company in British Columbia.

The S-55 is 42 feet long and can accommodate six stretcher pa- tients or 10 passengers. It has a range of more than 400 miles and this can be extended by the addi- tion of extra fuel tanks. It has a cruising speed of 100 miles an hour and a ceiling of more than

- 10,000 feet.

The S-55 is s single-engine, single-rotor type of utility heli- copter. It is powered by a Pratt and Whitney G00 horse-power en- gine located in the nose of the air-' craft for easy maintenance.

The S-55 will be the third type of helicopter flown by the air force. The other two types in serv- ice are the Sikorsky 5-51 and the Plssecki I-l2lA.
