-HAS FINGER CIiUSHED- Mr. William Gallant, foreman of the Hall Manifacturirig Co. Ltd., Summersldc. had the misfortune on Saturday to have the index finger of his left hand crushed while op- erating the iron cutting machine in the plant. He was immediaiely taken to the Prince County Hos- pital where medical aid was ad- ministered and although amputat- ion was found to be unnecessary it will be several weeks before he will be able to retuirn to work and resume his duties.-S

-PEANUT DAY IS SUCCESS- The first Peanut Day to be held in Summerside was carried out very successfully on Saturday sponsored by the Kinsmen and Kinetic Clubs and assisted by Mr. Henry Arsenault of Moncton. Planters representative. The pea- nut men were quite prominent on the streets all day and evening. Taggers who called at the homes weredrawn from the hockey and baseball teams sponsored and sup- ported by the Kinsmen Club. The cheerful and attractive taggers that operated on the main streets were members cf the Klneite Club and other young ladies who had offer- ed to assist. Mr. Maurice Mill was chairman of the Kinsmen com- mittee in charge of the project. The money raised will be used for youth welfare work in the town.

The annual picnic of the St. Luke's Church of England congre- gation was held on July 4th at O'Leary Corner and was very largely attended. and all had a good time.

Despite very inclement weather and heavy rains. there was a fine turnout of mothers and children on Thursday afternoon. July iith in the O'Leary United Church when the Baby Band held their annual party. The children had a short program and they brought their offerings which amounted to the splendid total of almost twen- ty-ihree dollars. Delicious refresh- ments were served which brought this enjoyable social function to a close. The superintendent of the Baby Band, Mrs. John Matthews. and her assistants are to be com- plimented on a fine year's work.

The striking float of the Plant- ers Peanut Co. of Canada drove through O'Leary on Wednesday. July 5th. and attracted great at- tention from the residents. This beautiful and unique float has an outer surface made up of thous- ands of strung-together peanuts and sitting on her throne is a very charming Peanut Queen and there are two Peanut men who are very much alive. The float comprises three vehicles in all. one housinti the loud speaker which gives out- music which proclaims to the pub- lic the parades approach. This beautiful float was used in Sum- merside Saturday. which was Kins- men's Peanut Day. the purpose of which is to raise funds for the carrying out of the Kinsrnenis va- rious philanthropic projects. by the selling of peanuts. We apprec- iate the opportuniiy of viewing this extraordinary float and want to thank those who arranged for the float to visit O'Leary. "the fastest growing community in West Prince."

LONDON. July 9-(CP)-The Admiralty announced today that the cruiser Jamaica, operating off Korea, was struck by a shell from -a shcre battery.

Five men were killed outright and another died of wounds.. the Admiralty reported. The cruiser was not materially damaged.

The Jamaica an IIDOO-ion vessel of the Fiji class, mounts nine 6-inch guns. 26 anti-aircraft weap- ons and six two-inch torpedo tubs.

Five of the dead were soldiers. The Admiralty did not disclose why soldiers were 'on the cruiser.

The Press Association said it is likely the soldiers were taken aboard at Hong Kong for a cruise before the fighting in Korea start- ed. and that they could not be landed before the Jamaica. was ordered into action.
