Many remarked on the fast time made at Covehead. One of the reasons for it was the fact that there had been a heavy rain the previous day and the hot sun of Wednesday dried up the track and made it very "lifey" and sp ngy. Wednesday night's race meet at Truro was one of the best of life season. In Race No. 1. C198: (Cruickshank) headedMerIe Direct and four others in 2141-5, which is one-fifth of a second of! his 1949 record and he also won Race No. 5. Clayton MacLeod's Misc Cherry Valley is keeping up her winning streak by copplng Race No. 3 in 2.14-which equals her record-and winning Race No. 7 in 2.15 with Gallonage (Sween- ey) second in the first event and Pearl Bumpaa (Daniels) second, in Race No. 7. Seven Up Direct (L. Walker) and Single Streak (J. Conroy) have been sharing honors in several races over the Truro track and on Wednesday night Seven Up Direct won Race No. 4 in 2.11845 with Luther Hanover (Given) 2. Single Streak 3, and in Race No. Bsingle Streak was first In 2.11 1-5, Seven Up Direct sec- ond. Glancing over the various summaries of the Truro track the speed appears to be pretty much on an average with that shown en the Charlottetown track. althougii Truro has had tone 2.10 mile while the best mile over Charlottetown this season is 2.11 by Joscdale Clipper (J. MacGregor).

Dr. F. C. Dougan, who acted as starter for the Moncton races on Wednesday and Thursday. said that the performance of Lock Han- over. owned by Bert Yerxa of Sussex and driven by- Claude O'- Brien was an outstanding one in the Free For All on Thursday. He won all three heats from such rc- doubtable pacers as Scott Spencer (Harrison). Mcxlyo Cash (Half- penny) and Wldow's Pride (Wry). His first heat in 2.07 3-5 is two- flfths better than his previous re- cord of 2.08 and is the fastest mile paced in the Marltimcs this season by a Maritime owned horse. In the Canadian Press summary Wid- ow'.s Pride is shown as second in the first and fastest heat. In the third heat he unfortunately broke his ankle and the racing days of this fast horse will be over. The three-year-old Resourceful. re- cently acquired by Harry Hirsch. won the 2.26-2.28 class nrst divis- ion with 1-1-2 and showed a lot of class. Tryon (Cormier) war a straight heat winner in the 2.2.3- 125 class. equalling his record of 2.14 in the first heat.

The many friends of Dr.-!'. W. Christopher of Boston. formerly of Tignish. are glad to greet him on his annual trip here. The Doctor is still keenly interested in racing and was a timer at Covehead last Wednesday afternoon. He was re- sponsible for recommending the famous stallion Kalmuck 2.1515 to Willard Kelly and made the ar- rangements whereby that horse and Ima Guy were brought down. The Doctor also sent down the well bred brood mare Mignonetfe by Great Britton. She is the dam of Babe Brltton 2.10 3-5 and oth- ers.

Allie Cutcliffe's host of friends will be delighted to know that he is back home from hospital and will rest quietly for a week or more before taking up his business duties. We all miss Allie around the race track and will be glad to see him active and around enjoy- ing the eport with the rest of us."

With her pistol in one hand and a whip in the other, Miss Gillen guided Tarzan into ihe.l'IL!l room and kept him there until the cage. was wheeled xover. The door was then opened and Tarzan trotted quietly into his cage. Once in a while her animals kick up on her but as a rule she has escaped very well in injuries. A few weeks rest in hospital usu- ally fixes her up all right. Miss Gillen and Tarzan is one of the mini thrilling wild animal acts in show business. ' O O I

Farm And Science Service In Tie

A spirited game of softball was witnessed at the Parkdale diamond Tuesday evening. between the Experimental Farm and the Sci- ence Scrvice squads. This was the fourth and deciding game of a hard fought series. for the third game ended in s 17-all tie after both teams had taken one each.

The Experimcnlal I-'arm team was playing a man short. but managed to hold a 7-7 tie until the last inning. when two runs came in as a result of hits by Reynolds and Biillem. to make the final score read 0-7 for the Experiment- al Farm. giving them the game and series.
