production. Livestock are also able to spend more time on pasture instead of climbing down steep inclines or wading belly deep in mud to reach water. This results in more milk and more beef being produced.

The program works by helping farmers install fences and water pumps, and there are already 75 farms involved in the program. In addition, there are also a large number of farmers that are fencing their wetlands voluntarily.

June 9 — The Forestry Division will host Smokey the Bear’s 50th Birthday Party at its open house at J.F. Gaudet Forest Nursery on Upton Road from 3:30 to 7:00 p.m. Many displays ranging from those of environmental groups to forestry specialty products will be featured.
