We have seen during the last twelve years the expenditure of this Province re- duced from $334,000 in 1878 to $280,000 in 1888. Jf our expenditure had increased at the same ratio that the expenditure has increased in the other Provinces, we would now have an annual expenditure of nearly $450,000 per year. It cannot be said that the Island is poorer, comparatively, than the other Provinces, and less able to stand increased expenditure.
