Any members who have not yet picked up their membership cards may do so at our office.

Congratulations to students who won the cash equivalent value of their accounting textbooks at the beginning of the semester. Thanks Ab.

On Sept. 16, we held our annual harbour cruise. In the line of sporting events, many dedi- cated members participated in softball on Sept. 23 and a golf tournament on Sept. 30. Special thanks go to Kenny MacDougall and Kim Griffin from our sponsor, Labatt Brewery. Softball MVP went to AB Ferris while Mark Hemphill claimed golf tourney champ. On Oct. 16, members gota chance to release their academic frustrations during an exciting after- noon of paintball combat. No casualties were reported.

On the intellectual side of things, the Busi- ness Society was pleased to have Jacinta Campbell and Teresa Toombs from the Canada Employment Centre do an informative session on resume writing on Oct. 6, On Oct. 14, Mr. Barry Wambolt from the Royal Bank visited the School of business for a recruitment session. Students who attended and are interested in seeking employment with the Royal bank are reminded to submit resumes and tran- scripts to the Business Society Office before Friday, Oct. 28.

The Business Society has recently purchased a book entitled The Hi t_Interview, an informative guide to job interviews. It can be signed out of our office for up to 48 hours.

Students who visit the 3rd floor of Kelley will notice our newly created ‘‘INFOCORNER’’. It contains a selection of information regarding career choices, corporate brochures, as well as upcoming events.

Students interested in joining the Business Society intramural hockey team may do so by sign- ing up in the lounge or calling the office at 566- 0407. It is not necessary to be a Society member. Quote of the Week:

QUANTITY FOODS ......... “ALOT‘A

FOOD?” ......NOTHING BUT! FOOD FOR 660! Each year, Home Economic students in FN420 prepare meals for 55 people at 12:00 noon on 12 different Tuesdays - 6 Tuesdays in the first semes- ter and 6 Tuesdays in the second semester. After many hours of menu planning, organizing, ordering and preparation, seven students will “‘cook up a storm’’ during six hour labs for our palates’ pleas- ure.

They actually prepare a 4 course meal for 43 seated ‘‘guests’’ at Dalton Hall’s dining room. (The leftover food is sold.) It all starts Tuesday, October 25 running until November 29 and from January 10, 1995 to February 14, 1995.

These seven students run Quantity Foods like a business. Meal tickets are sold at the door for $5.50 each or $30.00 for one semester. “‘Season’’ tickets are SOLD OUT already!

There will be just a few tickets sold at the door each week at noon on Tuesdays. Meals are served at the Dalton Hall Dining Room at Noon. The first of these will be today, October 25, 1994. So, don’t miss it!

With the money the students receive from tickets sold, they budget for food costs, replacement of small equipment and still make a small profit-

like any well-run business ought to do.

Meals are served at noon on Tuesdays. By 11:15 am, the students (as chef, manager, cook assistant, baker, salad chef, head waiter/waitress, and waiter/waitress) all cooperate to get the meal ready on time. They have already spent all morning working at their separate jobs.

It can get pretty hectic. The final meal preparations are coming toa close and if anything is to go wrong, it does so now! A lemon pie won’t thicken; the fresh sauce for a meat dish hasn’t been started yet; and there are two massive bowls of tomatoes to chop-- by hand (*‘AUGH!!!’”). Somuch to do...but always they pull it off.

In assembly-line style, 43 plates are pre- pared within 10 minutes so that everyone in the dining hall is seated and served by 12:10. That takes unified effort, real cooperation, and I hear that it’s a lot of fun too!

The students rotate the jobs so that each is able to experience the various jobs found in the institutional dietary kitchen. This provides all with invaluable experience and knowledge of how to run the business from the ground up. Many health care settings involve serving 300 meals at a given time, but here at UPEI, serving a total of 55 servings **._.Will give the students a true picture of what is required to deliver foods in quantity’’ states Profes- sor Bartlett. This will benefit the students when it’s time to go into the Dietetic Intemship. This valu- able experience will give them a degree of comfort and familiarity when it comes time for them to do the same work in the actual health care facility.
