POLICE COURT-A Charlotte- town youth who had been convict- ed of taking a car without the owner's consent was sentenced to three months in jail when he ap- peared before Magistrate Martinin City Police Court yesterday mom- ing. He had been previously bound to the peace on a similar charge two weeks before his last arrest. A drunk and incapable was remand- ed until the nth.

KINSMEN MEETING--Mr. Clive Stewart presided at the regular weekly supper meeting of the Kinsmen's club held at the Char- lottetown Hotel last evening. En- couraging reports were submitted by committee chairmen covering their activities, particularly that of Ken Martin dealing with club Christmas projects. Following a dis- cussion and "quiz" period on Kins- men history, the necessary com- mittees were named to arrange for the suitable observance of Found- ers Night early in February.

At the present time one of the problems which the Research Council is studying is that of seaweed as part of the overall plan to suist in de- veloping the natural rescurcea of the Provinces. He has been making a survey to let industrial people here understand how the Council can aid them.

The Hamilton people say that federal money is being used to bring Maritime potatoes to Ontario to compete with the unassisted on- tarlo producers. The fourth service during the Week of Prayer was held in Trin- ity Church Thursday evening. The minister, Rev. A. Frank MacLean. presided and was assisted by Rev. T. H. B. Somers who led in prayer and by Mr. F. B. Gamble who read the lesson. A ,large con- gregation was privileged to hear a masterly sermon by Canon J. T. Ibbott of St. Paul's Church, who

spoke on "The Glory of the Church". He alluded to many criticisms of old and current in

books. magazines and news art- icles which implied that the church was weakening and that the cause of Christ was gradually being defeated. Canon Ibbbtt,ac- knowledged there were weakness- es in the church, but said that every great institution, law and movement for good in the world was due to the Christian faith. and to this faith working in in- dividuals. He challenged his aud- ience by saying that the church was judged by individuals who make up the membership of the church and finished by quoting

Atomic WEI Talks Between ll. 8., Russia To Begin This Week

By WARREN ROGERS JR. WASHINGTON. (AP)-The state department said Wednesday the United States and Russia will start preliminary talks on Presi- dent Eisenhower's atomic pool pro- poeal "presumably in the course of the next few days."

The two countries agreed Wed- nesday to begin conversations aim- ed at setting a time, place and agenda for full-scale negotatons on the project outlined by Eisen- hower in his Dec. 8 address to the United Nations.

Soviet Ambassador Georgi M. Zarubin will represent Russia and State Secretary Dulles will speak for the United States at the pre- liminary talks here.

State department press officer Henry Suydam told a press con- ference today:

"The procedural conversations between secretary Dulles and am- bassador Zarubin will be arranged at their mutual convenience, pre- sumably in the course of the next few days."

Under qudstioning. Suydam said he meant the talks would get un- der way by then. -

Asked whether nations. such as Britain and Canada. which have atomic facilities. will be consulted on the Dulles-Zarirbin talks. Suy- dam said he had "no information on that." The Eisenhower plan was for all nations "principally involved" in atomic energy devel- opment to pool their materials and knowledge to develop peacetime uses of atomic energy.

Two appeal cases were heard in Supreme Court yesterday when Chief Justice Thane A. Campbell and Mr. Justice George J, Tweedv presided, In the first case, J. 1-. Raynor versus Bruce MacNauglht, an action in contract, the appeal was allowed. Mr, D. 0. Stewart, Q.G., summemfde, appeared for the plaintiff Raynor. and Hon. W. E. Darby. Q. C., for the defendant MacNaught.

The second case heard was all appeal on an action for slander. The case had been heard originally in the Klngs County Court between A R. MacDonald and J. Q, Murch- ison. The decision in the lower Court was for the defendant. This decision was upheld yesterday and the appeal was dismissed, Mr. C. R. McQuaid appeared for the plaintiff appellant and Mr. S. S. Hessian. Buick today presented a com- pletely new line of automobiles for 1954. studded with the most re- volutionary styling changes since the introduction of streamlining.
