In 1930 the Conservative Party. under Rt. Hon. R. B. Bennett, won the federal election and Mr. Dunning lost his seat. He turned to business in Eastern Canada. During this period he reorganized a number of newsprint companies into the Consolidated Paper 09. and became a leading figure in other companies.
He was not a candidate in the 1985 federal election, won by the Liberals. Mr. King urged his re- turn to the cabinet and he was given an acclamation in Queens, Prince Edward Island and again became minister of finance. He remained in this post until 1939 despite the serious heart “attack a year - earlier.
He spent the summer of 1939 in England under care of specialists and returned to Canada shortly before outbreak of the Second World War and soon resumed his business career.
An earlier trip back to Eng- land—in 1913—saw the blosom- in: of a boyhood romance when he married Ada Rowlatt of Basv singlon, N orthamptonshire.

Upwards of 160 parents and teachers attended the‘ opening meeting of Queen Charlotte High School Home and School Association held in the spacious school auditorium.

INTRODUCES STAFF The chairman asked Mrs. Earl Harrie, vice president -to take the chair so he, in his official capacity as Principal, could give his report on QCHS policy, organization and administration. Mr. Williams in opening his re- port paid tribute to the execu- tive of the Associatipn and to his hard-working staff of teach- ers. He introduced all the mem— bers of the staff and explained their duties and mentioned the various subjects for which each teacher is respossible.
Principal Williams report was a masterpiece of attention to de- tail and certainly was a revela— tion to parents in attendance. Among items covered were bad weather arrangements, provis- ion of luncheon beverages, cafe- teria facilities, homework, at- tendance, athletics, band,ospec-
ial instruction, student council and discipline. Mrs. Norrie extended thanks
of all to Mr. Williams for his report and turned the meeting back to him for adjournment with the National Anthem.

Art Society, Members To. Teach Painting To Public
At an executive meeting of the P. E .I. meeting of the P.E.I. Art Society, held Thursday even- ing in Prince of Wales College, H. Barry Bugden was chosen to head a group. of Teachers to endeavor to coordinate and or- ganize a program for the teach- ing of painting throughout the winter months.

The Art Society hopes this pro- gram will materialize for the benefit of those already painting, and to serve the need of all those who learn to paint, but for one reason or another have not been able to make the start.
This. program is being organiz- ed in an effort to more fully ful- fill an article of the constitution of the Art Society-4 e. To pro- mote a more general interest and to encourage a higher standard of art.

OTTAWA (CI —If you have a careless smoker around home, get rid of him. He causes more fire dleaths in Canada than anything e se.
And forget the idea that care lessness of teen-aged and aged baby sitters can be considered generally the cause of fire fatal- ities among infants. A National Research Council study of 698 698 fires in Onthrio between 1954 and 1957 says it‘s just not so.
A second NRC study—presented at a fire research and prevention conference here-Showed that a person on the second floor of a dwelling has as little as two min- utes to escape after a fire has started. This conclusion was reached in the experimental burn- ing of a number of homes aband- oned during‘ construction of the St. Lawrence Seaway.
The papers were presented at a conference sponsored by the coun- cil’s building research division. It was attended by federal, provin- cial and municipal fire - fighting officials and observers from Brit. am and the United States. i
In the study on fire deaths it was found that of 254 deaths in building fires in Ontario in 1956 and 1957, a totalof 53 werecaused by bad smoking habits. 0f the 53 deaths, 26 were caused by “some- one not necessarily the victim fol-I ling asleep while smoking."

Dies In London
LONDON (Reutersl—Dr. Marie Stopes, 78, pioneer of education in birth control and the author of many books on the subject, died Thursday at her home in Surrey.
She was the founder with her late husband, aviation pionesi Humphrey Verdun Roe, of the world’s first birth control clinic. which they opened in Holloway, north of London, in 1921.
Her early books were described as "obscene" and were some- times banned. Married Love — her best-known work which ap- peared in 1918 — sold 1,000,000 copies by~ 1950.
She herself had two children. The first died in infancy. The second. a boy, born in 1924, is married and has a son.

ST. LOUIS(AP)—Some 1959 model autos are too long, too low and covered with too many expensive gadgets to risk parking them, a St. Louis parking firm has decided.
Wayne Stedelin of an auto parks company, said some new cars are nine inches longer this and so long and ‘ wide that “we would have to rebuiid cur ramps to accom- modale them.” '
Owners cf such cars more told in newspaper advertise- ments to stay away from the firm’s six parking lots.
Stedelin said lights in the front b u m p er s of some models, plus fancy grillw'ork, add to the legal perils of op-
\erarting the firm.
“We are studying dim’en- sions of other cars now on the production lines," He said. “We may have to extend our bar to other new models."

Gamma Club Meeting Heldl
sown IERSID‘EI — Gamma m- Y Club held its regular meet- ing on Tuesday, September 30, 1958, with the President, Mar- jorie Ireland, in the chair.
The Gamma report to be en- tered in the Alpha Hi-Y Trophy Contest was read by the mem- bers. Last year’s attendance 're- cord reached the peak of 08 per cent.
This week’s Gamma dance was discussed. There is to be a variety of dances with prices offered. Soft drinks will not be sold. The new Gamma istamp will be used at this time.
Donna Bradshaw and Sally Spcers, new members, expres- sed their desire to join Gamma Club at the Hi-Y Annual Induc- tion. ‘
Ruth Ramsay, Arlene Moore and Joy Nicholson volunteered to act on a committee to
see about suitable hats, aprons, sweaters. etc., for Gamma members.
It was announced that the first Hi-Y Council meeting will be held Saturday night.
Following the business meet- ing the executive, committee chairmen and mentor explained their positions and duties for the benefit of the new members who will be aiding in these cap- acities after they are inducted.
