Ten Rules In Training Sons As Husbands

You want your boy to be I good son. But have you ever thought whether or not you are bringing him up to be a good husband? Do you really care whether he is or not?

If you do want him to be I good husband some day these are all points for you to remember.

One: Don't wait on him hand and foot. As a mother you may en- joy catering to him. but you can be pretty sure his wife won't want

to keep it up. Two: See that he doesn't pick up a superior attitude toward

women. squelch him every time he starts low-rating women in general.

Three: Don't give him the idea that any girl who gets him is plenty lucky. He may get the idea. anyhow. but dcn't encourage him in it. Girls today aren't so bad either.

Four: Don't run down modern girls to him. Today's girls are eva-y bit as worthwhile as today's young men - and chances are heili get M good as he is. .

Five: See that he picks up after himself. A man who tosses his clothes on the floor. leaves the bedroom looking as though a cyclone had struck. etc.. isn't any wcman's idea of a perfect hus- band.

Six: See that he knows how to talk to girls and women. The'hus- band who won't talk to his wife is no bargain in any woman's mind.

seven: See that he learns how to make small household repairs. It's as important fcr a husband to be a skilled handyman as for it wife to-be a good cook.

A. No. A "house warming" is an affair given by the friends of per- sons who have moved into I new home. and gifts are usually brought by the friends. One would not want to impose this obligation upon friends by inviting them to bring gifts. Instead. one can give an "open house" which is simply an invitation to come and see one's new home and does not obligate the guests to bring presents.

Q. Doesn't the bride and her mother make up the invitation list for a large wedding

A. Yes. together with the bride- groom and his mother. who have as much right to include their friends as the bride's family.

Q. when it is necessary for a male member of a dinner party to leave the table. should all the other men rise until he departs?

A. It is not necessary for the other men to rise.

Booklet Deals With Rheumatic Fever

A leaflet entitled "What You should Know About Rheumatic Fever" has been published by the American Heart Association and its affiliates in connection with the 1951 U. 8. heart fund cam- paign now being conducted.

A primary objective of the drive is to help finance research in rheumatic fever and rheumatic heart disease.- which have been termed "childhood's greatest en- emy." Rheumaiic heart disease is caused by rheumatic fever.

The leaflet explains that there 1,; no specific cure for rheumatic fever or rheumatic heart disease. but that doctors "recently found when a. streptococcic infection oc- curs. it may prevent rheumatic fever from taking hold later on.

In the greIt majority of cases. ulcers of the tongue Ind mouth are caused by digestive disturb- ances, and will pass away in I short time if the patient cuts down on irritating foods and on strongly Icid foods such as meat Incl eggs. and uses an alkaline purgatlve such as Epsom sells. However. when these ulcers of the mouth and tongue persist after or- dinary home treatment, the fam- ily physician should be consult ”.

In The British Dental Journal. Dr. A. 6. Kirby describes dyspep- tic uloers on the tongue. gum: or inside the cheeks as small rounded erosions (breaks in the tissue) with a white base. They are best treated by touching them with tincture of iodine and changing the diet.

Sometimes these ulcers are due to poor dental hygiene habits and in early stages penicillin lozengm. each containing 500 Oxford units of penicillin which. of course. should be prescribed by dentist or physician, are helpful. Dental ulc- ers occur on the side of the tongue and are due to the irritation of a jagged tooth or badly fitting den- ture. y

Tuberculous ulcers. usually a number, are situated at the edges and tip of the tongue and are very painful.

Cancer of the tongue has hard raised edges. If there is any doubt about the possibility of the ulcer being cancerous, a biopsy should be performed. Biopsy is cutting out a small piece of the tissue and ex- amining it under the microscope.

Gummaious ulcer (syphilis) oc- curs usually in the mid-line of the upper surface of the tongue. near- er the -back than the tip of the tongue. Fortunately. syphllitic ulcers are rnrely seen today.

In The Journal of Pediatrics it is stated that thrush (white spots in mouth), trench mouth (Vin- cent's angina), grayish white mem- brane on tonsils, gums. bank of throat. can be successfully treated by the old remedies-bornx and honey. peroxide (half strength). sodium perborate and borogly- cerin; severe or stubborn cases of these mild ulcers should he treat- ed with penlclllin as relief is ob- tained so much more rapidy. In children penicillin may be applied direct to the ulcer in dilution of 250 units per cc.. but injection into the muscles is advisable in most cases.

There are some tablets used in the treatment of simple mouth ir- ritations that are believed to cause the little sores or ulcers commonly celed fever bisiers and this should be remembered by patient and

physician.
