ood story at the expense of a lady of Char- ottetown and of Canadian Commercial Travel- lers in general, is afloat in this city, ‘The lady in question, wishing to senda parcel to some one in Outario, was told by a friend that no doubt some one of the commercial travel- lers would take it. and in course of conversa tion used a term or cognomen which is often applied to the said travellers. The lady got the parcel raady, and directed in care of Mr. Bummer, and straightway repaired to one of our principal hotels She met a Mr. P. at the door, and inquired if Mr. Bummer was in? “N-n-o! | think not!’ said the astonished Mr P. *‘1 don’t think any one of that name stops herc; I li look on the Negister however.” He did so, and stated that no name of the kind appeared there. She ap- peared nonplussed, as ver friend had certainly told her that Bummer was at that particalir hotel theatienyth broke out with, ‘O, Mr. P. he’s not a gentleman! he’s a-a perzon !” The unsophisticated lady evidently thought that only gentlemen's names figured on hotel registeis, and that the specimen of the yenus homo she was looking after, were tov humbie te have their names emblazoned thereon. The community are somewhat exercised to know whether or not that parcel ever reached its destination.
