Annual Conference of

Tug Sixth New

Brunswick and P. E. Island will be opened to-morrow morning, at 9 o'clock. This Conference was organized in Charlottetewn five years ago. It new contains nearly 100 mixisters and probatieners, above 80 of whom are expected to be present at its sit- tines. Most of the official members have arrived, including Revd’s J. Hart, Presi- dent; C. Stewart, D. D.; H. Pope, D. D.; J. Burwash, M. A.; R. Duncan, D. Chap- man, E. Evans, J. Prince, H. McKeown, and others. Considerable inte-est is ex- cited about the deliberations of the Station- ing Committee, which commenced it work this morning, at 9 o'clock. This year there are an unusually large number of removals. The Committee is composed of Revs. J. Hart, Robert Duncan, H. McKeown, D. Chapman, E. Evans and J. Lathern, Chairmen of Districts, and Revds R. W. Weddail, A. M., Wim. Dobson, J. N. Parker, R. Wilson, G. Harrison and J. Seller, A.M., representatives of the respec- tive districts. A first draft of appeintments must be ready for the Conference at the close of its first session. Statistics of mem- bers, churches, etc., are putin order by a Committee, which met at°9 o'clock this morning, with Rev’ds C. W. Dutcher, Chairman, and Thomas Marshall, Secretary. Kidnapped and Held for Ransom.

Unper the above heading, Mr. D. W. Miller, of Georgetown Royalty, advertizes for information regarding his sen Isaac— seventecn years of age—who has been missing from home since the 25th ef May last. Mr. Miller says : ‘‘ I don’t know the cause fof his absence, and ! have been un- able—although making diligent search—to find any traces of his whereabouts. Offers have been made that, for a sum of money, my son would be restored to me. I now caution all persons against harboring or aiding in harboring or concealing the said Isaac Miller, under penalty of prosecution to the utmost extent of the law, and I hereby request my sen Isaac Miller to re- turn home at once.”

The Uull Murder at New York.

DISPATCHES announce that the murderer of ‘Mrs. Hu'! has been discovered in the person of a negro named Christine Cox. As will be remembered, Mrs. Hu!l was found dead in bed on the morniag of the lithinst. Sane was also blindfolded and gagged. <A trunk at the side of the bed was rifled of its contents. The fingers of the dead lady’s hands were found badly torn, and her friends say that a large diamond ring and one emerald has been torn thorefrom. Dr. Hull, her husband, with whom she lived unhappily, was strongly sus- ‘pected as being the murderer; but since the mrrest and confession of the negro Cox, the hhasband is cleared of all imputations. The mitrderer was tracked to Boston by a news- poner reporter, and there arreste Mrs.

ull's watch was found on his person. He made a full confession of the murder.

The Atkinson Shooting Case.

‘Tu& mysterious attempt to murder Mr. Israel Atkinson, at Sackville, N. B., on Thursday last, was fully developed on Mon- day. ‘The Sheriff learned that one George Sriuth, a son of Valentine Smith, of Beech Hill, had borrowed a gun froma neighbor namef Hicks on the night of the shouting, which, connected with other cireumstances, decided the Sheriff to arrest him. Gatherin ® posse he was arrested after a sharp run ond «hunt throvgh ten acres of brushwood. The gun was found secreted in his father’s barn. Smith is a boy about 17 years of age. He says the intended the shot for another party en- tirely—a merchants who detected him some months ago in the act of stealing. A dispatch Says: Atkinson is improving rapidly, not- withs‘anding his forty-four shot wounds, none of which appear to be serious.

The Halifax Sensation. Miss Porrer’s CHARGE aGaInst W. (C. BRENNAN—HE HAS THE WOMAN AREESTED BEFORE THE TRIAL.

Despatches receive frem Halifax last even- ing state that the complaint of Miss Porter against W. C. Brennan en a charge of stealing clothing, created great excitement in that city yesterday, as the preliminary examination proceeded before Mr. Prior, the stipendiary magistrate. The interest was considerably intensified when it became known that BRENNAN HAD HAD MISS PORTER ARRESTED. on acapias, fer debt an hour before the court met, in the hope of preventing her appearance in court ;; this was frustrated by Mr. Motton. The prosecutor swore toe ill-usage and threats from Brennan, and his threatening to kill her if she weuld not settle with him or leave the place. She re- iterated her former statement that he left her penniless in Boston, stole her clothes and otherwise ill-treated her.

She continued the evidence. He has been to see me twice at my boarding House. The first time was on the afterncon of his arrest. He said : ‘‘I want to settle with you, and I want you to go away.” I replied that I would not go. He told me he had some more of my things and would give them back to me and money besides if I would only go away and I refused. He again asked me to settle matters and said let us be good friends and asked me to for- give him for what le had done tome. I told him I

I will come out and take you for a drive. I told him I would not go ; and said

YOU WILL KILL ME IF YOU GET & CHANCE. He then said: ‘You will not settle.” I said, no; [ will not. Then he threatened me and said he would ruin me if he had-to swear falsely todo so. When he deserted me in Boston he left a note at the hotel which I produce. It is in his handwriting as follows :—-

“Emma; Ihave to go to New York to night; oniy just time to get train; get

reom and move in by 12 to-morrow ; meet

I did not get the $10 nor seen him after- wards.

Drunken roughs gave considerable trouble, and finally the sharpshooters were sent for asa protection. The Lieutenant denis he gave the order to fire, but says that after he had cleared the ground by a bayonet charge, there was such a rain of stones and bricks that his men began a desultory fire without erders.

The Division of the Chicago and Lake Huron Railroad, from Port Huren to Flint, was sold By auction to-day for $300,000, to a Committee representing the Eastern bond-holders of the Grand Trunk Com- pany.

A despatch from Laramie City, Wy, says: There is great interest here over the rich silver mine discovered on the North Fork. An official essay to-day by the ter- ritorial assayer certifies the ore to be lead carbonate and to contain 433 ounces of silver per ton. People are rushing here from all around this section.

A despatch from Niagara Falls, N. Y., says: ‘‘A Frenchman and wife —Mr. and Mrs. Roland—frem Japan, bound for Paris, France, arrived here on Thursday last. The lady, in stooping te get a drink of water at Goat Island, this morning, slipped and was carried over the Falls. The hus- band was the only witness, and is appar ently unconcerned regarding the matter.”

An Allentown, Pa., despatch says: ‘* An explosion occurred about 6.30 this morning at,the ore mine en the land ef Stephen and Lonoyer, two miles from Evans, Pa. A boiler burst with terrific force, killing five men outright and severely wounding four others.” A second despatch says that Benjamin Reeon, engineer, died this even- ing, making the sixth victim.
