INTRODUCTION.

The feedan of the ﬁve thousand is one of the very few events of our Lord's life and the only miracle, apart from the events and miracles of passion week. recorded by all of the. evankelist. writers. .\ careful study of this fourfold account brings out very clearly the fact. that, the evangelists were men of ﬂesh and blood like unto ourselves. with individqu traits aurlcharnctcristics as clearly marked as cur-own: and that in using these men as his inspired messengers to their own and inter generations God did not. make of them mere machines. but permitted them to remain free moral agents. in every respch human. Thus we find each giving his own account. of this event will) it slightly different setting. Each writer emphasizes those details which made the deepest impression on the mind. omitting runny others which had either slipped from his memory or which to him seemed of less importance. A careful comparison of the four accounts in details (Matt l-l. ill-2ft; Mark ii. 3:)»10; Luke ll. 10 17; John ii. i l.'il will bring out, clearly this fact, the recognition of which may lnturn materially aid in clarifying our notion of the inspiiu at ion of the Bible
