The public will be glad to learn also from Mr. Pitts that the discipline of the crew was so strongly marked. They behaved nobly, no doubt, in obeying their Com- mander’s orders, and clinging to the wreck from the moment she struck until they found it safe to land ; for, according to Mr. Pitts, had they attempted to land sooner, they would probably have been lost. Mr, Pitts has also tsuken upon himself to ad- minister a severe castiga ion to the Domin- ion Government, fof not rendering assistance to the Admiral or Capt. Grenfel’, | which, no doubt, will have good effect. He refers a little to loyalty, but I cannot quite catch his meanirg. Whether he refers to |the people of East Point, to the Dominion Government, or to the proposal made some few years ago by a prominent Halifax politician, to pull down the British Flag, is not quite clear. However, J] suppose those changes recommended by Mr. Pitts will be attended to in due time, viz., the removal of the lhght tothe bill of the Point, the regulating of the current, and the correc- tion of the Admiraliy Book of Sailing Di- rections, Meattime, it. is hoped that Mr. Pitts’ letter will find a place in the scrap- book of every naval officer of Hier Majesty’s Service, and that the good light-keeper at East Point will, like the. wise virgin of old; | keep his lamp trimmed and burning.
