The monthly meeting of the st. Lawrence Sub-division was held at the home of Mrs. Joseph Walsh with a good attendance of mem- bers on Dec. 9. Meeting opened with the league prayer by the Pre- aident Mrs. Harold Phelan.

Minutes of the last monthly meet- lug were read and approved. The correspondence was read and it was decided to send S5. to the T. B. League. It was moved and sec- onded that a Christmas gift be given to Father Robin and a mem- ber who was sick.

Meeting closed with prayer by Mrs. Phelan. Lunch was served by the hostess and committee in charge, after which a card game was enjoyed. Prises donation were by Mrs. Francis Fitzgerald, Mrs. Smith O'Brien. and M.rs. Francis O'Brien.

Mrs. Aloin Wilkie entertained a large attendance of members of the Elmsdale Women's Instit- ute at her home on Tuesday. December 4. for the monthly meeting. Roll call was answered by an exchange of gifts.

Next meeting is to be at the home of Mrs. Frank Dunn on Jan- uary lst.

The ladies of Mt. Albion W. I. were entertained by Mrs. John Myers and Mrs. Sidney Myers as Joint hostesses tor their December meeting. The meeting opened with Mary Stewart ode. Eight members answered roll call.

The minutes of the last meet- ing were read and approved. The treasurer reported a considerable amount of cash on hand. It was moved all bills be paid. It was decided to have a sale of articles at next meeting. which will be held at the home of the president. Collection 31.15. Meeting adjourn- ad with the singing of the Queen.

For the ladies. more than 2,000 strong, already serve beside their khaki-clad male counterparts in the five army commands across Cnisada.

Behind these peacetime. part- time women soldiers is Major Marjorie Evis. senior staff offl- cer of the Canadian Women's Army Corps.

COMES FROM TORONTO

A tall. dark-eyed brunette. Tor- onto-born Major Evis is a vet- eran oi the Second World War. She was recalled to-actlive army duty in 1950.

Intervieiied at army headquar- ters here, Major Evis said she acts as adviser on matters of spe- cial concern to the CWAC. Un- like the air force and the navy, there is no regular women's army. With the exception of Major Evis and five officers in the commands. CWACS are enlisted in the army militia. or reserve.
