Examination Papers

The matter of entrance examin- ation wls the first subject discus- sed. At the local convention it had been decided that the papers for the last ten years should be print- ed for the benefit of the teachers, the president reported.

Mr. Russell Leard moved that the examinations be printed. The motion was seconded by Mr. J. W. I‘. MacCsiium. 1t was moved by way of amendment by Mr. H. W. Yoo and seconded by Min Ii. '1'. Lowther that the copies of exam- iriations be sent free to the teach- ers who made application. The amendment carried.

Education Tour

Mir. Bertram Lax-kin for a. com- rnittee appointed to lock into the matter of an education tour of Montreal, Olzawa. and Quebec pre- sented his report. A number of plans suggested i1_v the railway weio set forth.

After considerable discussion it was decided that the carrying out of the arrangements of the tour be left to the committee.

Pensions

Mr. L. F‘. MacDonald presented the report for the penslom corri- mittee. He stated that some weeks ago a number of teachers had been called into conference by the Gov- ernment on the matter of pensions. ‘riimes were hard and the Gov- ernment tild not feel able to meet the teachers’ payments dollar for dollar. Members of the Government were opposed to any extravagance in connection with the pensions. Mr. MacDonald explained the am- endments to the act. A teas-ha might go out after thirty years’ service. provided they had reach- ed the age of sixty. The Govern- ment would contribute $4,000 s year. 'I'l1e Govemor in Council would put the Act in force imme- diately on approval of the teach» ers. Provision had been made for refund to teachers who left the profession before such time as they were eligible. The Government was interested in seeing the pen- sions plan carried out successfully. Mr. Mas-Donald moved that tlic amended wt be ratified by the Federation. The motion carried. Mr. Russell beard presented the report of the secretary ‘Preasilrer. A favourable balance of more than $1,000 remained to the credit of the Federation.
