Labor Efficiency

United States farm economists have come up with interesting in- formation on the relative efficiency evident in farming operations. Their findings indicate that the good farmer wastes up to 20 per cent of his labor - the average farmer up to 40 per cent - the below aver- age farmer up to 75 per cent of his labor.

To back up this statement the economists cite the growing of corn as an example. The average farm- er worked 24 hours to raise an acre of 35 bushel corn. yet some corn belt farmers can produce so bush- els with lo hours of work. while a few pa Juced 70 bushels in less than 4 hours.

l-log farmers on the average worked 3 hours to raise 100 pounds of pork, yet there are those who do the job in 45 minutes.

In the state of Maryland, dairy- men must ship 00 gallons of milk daily per full time worker to show a profit.

Copies have been sent to all Canadian Foreign Trade Commis- sioners to obtain a further distrib- ution among the trade, and several hundred copies still remain at the secretary's office here, to be used to the best advantage as our Conl- mittee may see fit.

Those of the trade who have seen some of the proofs are enthu- siastic about our effort and ex- press the belief that the advertis- ing value will be a real and lasting one.
