Pte. J. Casey 0f Summerside Killed In Action

Mr. and Mrs. William (Josey, Summerside, yesterday received a Iellflmm conveying the sad news that their son, Pte. Joseph Casey had been killed in action, Much sympathy is conveyed to the grief stricken parents by their many friends. Another son. Ernest, is at present in hospital in England suffering from wounds received in action.

Pte. Joseph Casey was one of Summersidc's very popular young men who enlisted shortly after war was declared. He was a very prom- inent local athlete and for many seasons was a star player on the Crystal hockey team.

Besides his parents there are eft to mourn three brothers. Stanley and Herbert at home, and Ernest. in England; and two sis- ters,_ Maude of Montreal. and Margaret (Mrs. Ernest Steele) of Summerside-S.

There was a drop of 44 cars in the loaded freight ferried across Northunnberland Strait by the Can- adian National Railways in Aug- ust this year compared with the same month in 1943, it was learned yes erday from figures released by the office of Mr. E"W MéKihnim, superntendent of the P. E. I. di- vision of the C. N. R.

Fewer cars were shipped from here but the imports were u . the figures revealed. In August t is year 472 cars left the province. compared with 538 a year ago while the coming freight numbered 1,293 cars to the 1.183 in I943.
