The General Elections of the Student Union held in March shall be for the purpose of electing all UPEI SU Councillors with the excep- tion of the Freshman Representative, the Education Representative, the Graduate Student Association Representative and the Freshman Class Executive. ee

Nomination forms can be picked up at the Student Unioit office between 9:00am and 4:00 pm, Monday March 11 through to Friday March 15. Nominations Close at 1:00 pm on March 15. Student Union members (students) taking less than three courses shall not be eligible to be nominated as a candidate to the UPEI SU Council with the ex- ception of the representatives from MAPUS, the student Senator elected from the MAPUS population at UPEI or the Graduate Students Association.

Playoff Diary: Final Chapters

As promised, here are the final entries as the Panthers’ playoff run comes to an end.

Game 1

Saturday night rolled around, and approximately 3400 people flooded te the Civic Centre to see the Panthers take on the Axemen in a must-win situation. A couple of my friends and I raced around the Civic Centre prior to game time, putting up posters (about 12). The game got underway. Even though we had the edge in numbers, the 400 Acadia fans some how drowned us out. We managed to start a wave, with the help of the announcer. As expected, the game was aclose one. Neither team gave up many chances. Like the first game of this series, this game also went into overtime. Fans, like me, were absolutely on the edge of our seats, and screaming encouragement. Just less than two minutes into the overtime, Mike Harding scored for the Panthers, sending most of the crowd into a frenzy! Also scoring for the Panthers this night were John Nelson, Tyler Ertel and Colin Wilson. Fans left, eager for the final and deciding game on Sunday.

The Axe falls Sunday's game once again saw a

"capacity crowd at the Civic Centre (we

were in line at the Sports centre at 8:15 am for our tickets!). The game was close through the first two period. - Neither team took a commanding lead until the third when Acadia scored two goals and went up 5-3. The Panthers added a goal, but so did the Axemen, giving them a two goal lead going into the last few minutes of the third. At that point many believed it was over, and I was really worried. Suddenly, with about 45 seconds left in the game, John

Nelson scored. The Civic Centre came alive, suddenly there was hope. The Panthers pulled their goalie, thus having six men on the ice. About 20 seconds later, Nelson once again scored. The place went nuts! The Panthers had tied the game. Everyone (but the Acadia fans) was on their feet cheering and screaming. Then came the dreaded overtime period. Johnson, in nets for the Panthers saved a couple of early oppor- tunities, but about two minutes or so into the period, Doherty of the Axemen scored. Most fans, along with players, were deflated. Scoring for the Panthers were Nelson (2), Todd Walker, Colin Wilson, Dave Lemay and Cory Power. However, along with my friends, I continued to cheer for the team. The Acadia Axemen became the 1995-96 AUAA Champions.

So, we didn't win. The team had a great run, and showed Acadia, as well as the rest of the conference, that we are a force to be reckoned with. The games all went into overtime, so Acadia cer- tainly didn’t walk all over us. Although the season is over for this year, I am still a proud Panther fan, and look forward to next year!

Personally, and on behalf of other fans, I want to thank Doug Currie, and his staff, and the Panthers hockey team for.an incredible season, we loved every minute of it. I would also like to wish the graduates KJ White, John Nelson, Cory Power and Forbes MacPherson the best in whatever they do and thank them for giving Panther fans some thing to cheer for during the last few years.

Take care guys, we are going to miss you!

And in closing, I would like to leave you with the echoes of an awe- some year -- “Go Panthers Go!”
