After a lengthy and thorough ex- amipation before the Stipendary Magis- tratd, Mr. Biatch was, to-day discharged from custody apd acquitted, The case excited intetise interest ; and the decisio will be received with pleasure and satis- faction, odly marred by the fact that the mystery of the robbery remains unsolved.

The. case is iv point as showing the great interest the public have in search- ing out and dragging to punishment offenders agaiust the laws. One guilty rascal often brings dozens of innocent men under suspicion. No matter how good his ebaracter or responsible his position, almost any man is, a3 this case show’, liable to suffer the undiscovered guilt of a thief in the community.

On behalf of the public, as well as on bekalf of those who suffer loss, uo pains should be spared in ferreting out the thief.

There are, perhaps, some persons who would blame Messrs.
