“Island fields need rain once a week", we commented to James, When away from Alder- lea at another yard of these farms, we chatted in the gather- ing. gloom of its approach this evening.

. Pork Chop and. Vegetable Skil- let: Rub 6 shoulder pork chops all over with a mixture of 2 tbsp. flour, 1/4 tsp. thyme, 1% tsp. salt, #4 tsp. pepper and 1/2 tsp. mono- aodium glutamate. -

Melt 2 tbsp. fat in a skillet t'ha. can go to table.

Brown chops on both sides. Add 1% c. boiling water or meat broth. or enough to cover the

chops. Stir in 1% tsp. lemon juice. , Amange vacuum ~ pack sweet

potatoes around the edge, but

slightly above the‘ gravy. Cover. Simmer-cook 45 min. or until the chops are fork-tender. /

With a dampened twist of pa- per towel, carefully wipe away my gravy from the inner edge. Arrange seasoned; whole cooked or canned green beams between the potatoes. Garnish with to- mato wedges and slices of dill pickle. Serve in the skillet.

Orange Snow Pudding: Prepare 1 pkg. orange-flowered gelatin ac- cording to directions. Refrigerate until slightly thickened.

Boat with a rotary or electric beater until creamy.

Beat 2 egg whites stiff, and beat in. Reffigerwte 2 hrs. or until firm. '

Serve with chilled Mandanin or- .ange sections and their juice.

By one of those coincidences that seem to point to the‘reslity of “Mental Telepathy," this mor- ning 1 came across the following “poem” written by me and pub- lishcd (in the Poet’s Corner) in the Guandlan of July 20, 1938. As I write, it is July 20, 1958 ~— and just such a rainy summer’s day so inspired the poem:
