VICTORIA. B. C.. Jan. 2'1-(CP) Agriculture Minister Gardiner hinted today that the Federal Government. may' increase the floor price for eggs but not for butter. .

In a speech prepared for deliv- ery to the 17th annual convention of the Canadian Federation of Agriculture. Mr. Gardiner com- pared support. market and parity prices for six staple farm products and said:

"There is quite a spread (be- tween market and parity prices)

on British Columbia apples. only.

a slight spread on butter and sufficient spread on eggs to war- rant consideration of a higher floor."

The dairy farmers of Canada, in convention last week at Vancouver. asked for a five-cent increase to 53 cents on the floor price for but- ler.

Porcupine Pen and New Larder 11. both small-priced issues with inter- ests in reported base-metal finds near Batzhurst. N.B.. each traded more than 1.000.000 shares during the day. New Lardcr gained 35 cents by the close and at times was ahead 05 cents at 82.50. Porcupine. which closed yesterday at eight cont-6. opened today at 13 dents and closed with a gain of seven.

The previous most active day here was Oc't. 11. 1951. when a boom in Western oils pushed the volume above 7.774.000 shares.

Marine Slip

Plans leading to the building of a. marine slip for Charlottetown re- ceived a boost last night with the appointment of a committee of six to investigate all possibilities. It was named at the second open meeting held to determine the feeling of citizens on the project.

Last night's meeting at City Hall was largely attended. with repre- sentativa from many organizations present to name or suggest commit- tee members and discuss the lderl generally. Before the committee was named several present took part in the dlscussio us and expressed ideas concerning what might or could be done.

Named to the committee were Mcsrs. P. R. Mccormac, of the City Council; Roland MacDonald, Fed- eration of Agriculture; James Carr. of the Union at Bruce Stewarts: Frank Hughes, of the Laborers Pro- tective Union; Capt. F. Hunter, and a member to be named from the Charlottetown Board of Trade.

Gov't Butter Temporarily

O'I'l'AWA. Jan. 27 - (GP) - The Agriculture Department has been ordered to halt sales of gov- ernment butter temporarily, it was learned today.

The order was issued by Agri- culture Minister Gardiner and be- came effective yesterday. The ban on government butter sales is expected to be continued until at least Feb. 2 when Mr. Gardiner is due back from the west coast. He is in Victoria attending the an- nual meeting of the Canadian Fed- eration of Agriculture.

No reason was given for the ministerial order. Sales of gov- ernment butter had been con- tinuing since last November.

The government has about 35.- 000.000 pounds of butter in stock. Government accumulations re- sulted from the 58-cent-pound floor price on butter. The depart- ment has been selling its butter in wholesale lots at about 02 cents a pound.

OTTAWA. Jan. 27-(CP)-The Post Office Department today an- nounced an emergency plan for "drastic" curtailment of mail ser- vices in ihe event of a railway strike in Canada.

The Department said the emer- gency measures in the event the Brotherhood of Railroad Train- men go through with their plan to strike Feb. 2, would include an embargo on parcel post. in- cluding air parcel post, newspap- ers and other printed matter.

These classes of mail would not be accepted for several days be- fore the strike deadline when de- livery could not be guaranteed by Feb. 2.

Under the restrictions mail ser- vice to out-of-town points would be limited to ordinary letters. first class matter prepaid athlet- ter rates. medicine, including an- alyses, specimens and other aim-

ilar items prepaid at normal rates sent to or from doctors or hospitals.
