Tus steamer Flam)orough arrived from Montreal this morning, with a cargo of general merchandise.

Tue English mail via Canadian packet will be closed at the Post Oifice in this city at nine o'clock this evening.

A SuMMERSIDE correspondent of the St. John Sun writes: ‘‘ There is a great deal of sickness in this place—I suppose in con- sequence of the weather.

Tue Princess of Wales returned from Pictou at Ll o'clock, last night, with mails and the remainder of the Halifax excur- sionists.

Mr. Witttam Doyie, formerly of this city, has leased the extensive steam mill of Messrs. Longworth & Co., Mount Stewart, where he is now doing a_ brisk business in the furniture and blockmaking line. We wish him success.

A pespatcu received from Pictou this morning reports that the steamer Worcester broke her propeller, eutside Pictou Harbor last night. She now lies in Pictou to await the arrival of a new propellor. Passengers will likely be forwarded to this place by Princess of Wales this evening.

Tue Stipendiary Magistrate’s Court met yesterday evening at four o’clock. Michael ; Clinton and Peter Manley appeared for be- ing engaged in afriendly ‘‘ set-to” on Rich- mond Street. They were each fined $1 and costs or 4 days; John Prenty was ar- rested for being drunk and incapable. He was fined $3 and costs or 14 days ; Bernard McCarey, arraigned for assaulting M. P. Rotchford a short time ago, was committed for 8 days.

A sap drowning accident took place dur- ing the storm of Friday evening last, near Morris Island in Tusket River, N. 8. Three brothers named Frautten and a son of one of them attempted to leave their schooner in a boat. It is supposed that the boat was capsized by a squall, as she came ashore dottom up on the following Sunday. The bodies of the men have not been re- covered. By this casualty four widows and fifteen children are left destitute.

ANoTHER terrible tale of the sea comes from London—the sinking of the German steamer ‘‘ Pommerania” by a collision, and the loss of the lives of about fifty second and third class passengers, chiefly, it is said, Germans. The captain refused to desert his post, and heroically went down with the ship. ‘Nhe doomed vessel had no warning, and in fifteen minutes from the time she was struck she sunk, and with her a host of lives went down. It is an awful story as succinctly related by the survivors.

Smatui-Pox at ALBERTON.—Quite a fiut- ter of excitement, says the Pioneer, was caused here this forenoon by the discovery that a man sick with the small-pox was lying in one of the boarding-houses in the centre of our village. The brigt. Corinne, from Newfoundland, came into port last Friday, and it appears her Captain (Koenig) had been illfor some days. On Saturday he took lodgings in the hotel in question, with the view of receiving better care and being near medical attendance. This morn- ing (Tuesday) Dr. Bearisto made a profes- sional visit to the patient and discovered that he was suffering with small-pox. It appears that the Captain’s brother had the disease in Montreal recently, but having re- covered, is new on board the Corinne. The discovery of such a fatal and nauseous dis- ease in the very centre of our village caused a good deal of excitement and run- ning to and fro. The magistrates imme- diately placed the building under quaran- tine regulations, forbidding all ingress and egress; and at the time of writing we understand that preparations are being made to get the sick man on board and to move the vessel out into the stream where she will have to remain the twenty-one days required by the existing quarantine laws of the Dominion. For our own part we have no fear at all that the disease will spread, particularly at this season.

The receipt of the following telegram by Mr. Palmer created quite an excitement :—

CHARLOTTETOWN, Nov. 26.

To A. L. Palmer:

I slept at Waverley House on night of 12th October; was not in bed till nearly 2 o'clock. Saw McCarthy there; he treated before he left the house. I shipped next day in the ‘‘J. V. Troop” for Cardiff ; think my evidence would help prisoners. I only arrived last night. Heard nothing of the murder till then. If wanted, telegraph immediately.
