We are informed that the Liberal Reform Clab, at Montague, held a meetiag extraor- | dinary on Saturday night last, to consider | whom they should run for the Dominion | election. Some were, in favor of| L. H. Davies, Esq., perhaps fearing| there is not a man of their party with | either brains or force enough in their own | couaty. If report be true, the members of the Association forgot their late ardor for the Sabbath; for some found it difficult to rise | early enough to get breakfast over before noon | on that day.

Ove Forks.--On Tuesday evening this Company produced ‘‘ Hazel Kirke,” to an appreciative audience, at the Academy of | Mesic We have seen ‘* Hazel Kirke,” put | on the stage in this city by several Compan ies, but we never saw it rendered with more effect than by the present Company, under | the management of Mr. McGinnis. ‘* Hazel Kirke,” as impersonated by Mrs. Bird; ‘* Lord Carlingford,” by Mr. McGinnis, and “* Sir Rodney,” by Mr. Armstrong, were every one well acted, while the parts ‘‘ Piticus Green,” aod “Dear Delicious Delightful Dolly Dut- ton,” were well sustained, and excited the laughter of the audience, throughout. The members of the Company are well known m this city, and it is the general opinion that they have improved very much in their art since their last appearance here. Last even- ing the ‘Colleen Bawn” was produced to a good audience, and to-night “The Two Orphans” will, no doubt, be greeted with a bumper honse.

Sir Wm. V. Harcourt stated in the Com- mens this afternoon that Davitt is subject to the conditions of his ticket of leave, which will be revoked if he speaks contrary to law and order.

On motion to go into Committee on the | Repression Bill, Joseph Cowen (Radical) moved an amendment declaring that while the House was desirous of aiding the Gov- ernment in detection of crime, it dis- approved of the restrictions on free expres- sion of public opinion im Ireland. Charles Thompson and Charles Russell (Liberals) supported the amendment. Right Hon. D. R. Plunket, Conservative member for Dublin University, supported the bill. The authorities have received informa- tion of proposed attempts on the lives of several well-known politicians in London. Police are guarding the residence of all Ministers.

A Constantinople despatch states that the Porte made representations to the Greek Cabinet in regard to the despatch of G.cek men-of-war to Egypt.

In the Lords, last evening, Marquis of Waterford gave nvtics of, and postponed, his question relative to the Kilmainham compact. Earl Granville protested against such notice, as the Speaker of the Commons ead ruled a similar one cut of order. An adjournment of the House to June Ist was then agreed to.

It is thought that President Grevy will refuse to accept the resignation of Leon Say, Minister of Finance. The Chamber of Deputies will have an opportunity of re- considering its action to discuss the pro- posal substituting a duty on alcohols for a duty on wines and beeas, which is opposed by Say.

New York, May 23.

A London special says ‘‘ there is a crisis in the Cabinet owing -to a difference of opinion between Harcourt and his col- leagues on Coercion, Harcourt threatens to resign, unless the Government carry through the Crime Prevention Act in its original form and undertake to inforce its provisions rigorously. The new trouble is caused by Michael Davitt’s speech at Manchester, which is regarded as a menace to obstruct the pacification of Lreland, and it has destroyed all hope of obtaining any modification of the Coercion Act.

Dr. Read, and Dr. Leeming sent word regretting un- avoidable absence. After singing ‘*‘ Hold the Fort” the meeting was ably addressed by J. J. Chappelle, G. 8.; G. W. Beatley, G. W. P.; D. W. Henderson, G. T.; James Easton and John Bryenton, after which ‘‘ Milton Star” Division, No. 129, was formally established with 27 charter members. The officers are :—
