The exports, the produce of Canada, for the month ending 31st March, amount- ed to $3,551,595, an increase of $621.018 over the previous month, and of $738,375 over the corresponding month of last year. Of the produce of other countries $216,105 were exported during last month, as against $107,820 for the month of February, 1889, and $220,668 for the corresponding month of 1888. Comparing the total exportation of last month with that of the previous month, au increase of $732,748 is shown, and for the corresponding month of 1888 an increase of $728,862. The total amount of coin and bullion exported during last month waz exceptionally large, amounting to $1,321,644, making the grand total of the exports $5,089,344, as against $3,938,- 888 for the corresy nding month of March, 1888. The total exports fur the nine mouths ending March 3lst amounted to $65,499,888. The greatest increase in the eXports is ip agricultugal products, the pro- dace of Canada, which amounted to $1,089, - 007 for last month, as against $801,886 for the same month last year, an increase of $296,121.

~~ The railway statistics presented to Parliament a few days ago show that the mileage of completed railways in Canada on the 30th June last was 12,701, an addition of 380 miles during the year; the tons of freight carried amounted to 17,172,759, an increase of $16,424 tons over the previous year ; the passengers carried in the year numbered 11,416,791, an increase of 718,- 153 ; the receiots from the passenger traffic were $12,144,637, $376,960 more than in the previous year ; the receipts from freight traffic were $24,410,085, an increase of $1,- 529,053 ; the total earnings were $42,159,- 152, which is $3,317,142 more than in the previous year ; the receipts per train mile $1.13, and the expenditure 81} cents,which 8 about the same proportion as in the pre- vious year. During the past ten years the mileage of railways has more than doubled,

Mr, McMillan was a native of P. E. Island, and always took a deep interest in the innual Scotch games, being present whenever possible. He wasa Presbyterian, and in poli- tics a staunch Liberal-Conservative. We ten- our sincere sympathy with the relatives -Colonial Stand- ard, Pictou, N. S., April 16, 1889.

The deceased, whose parents, among others, emigrated from Colonsay in the year 1803, in the emigrant ship Spencer, was a native of Wood Islands, and in his 68th year. He left his birthplace for Pictou, N. S., when a young lad, and en- tered the empl y of Russell Bros., with whoim he served his apprenticeship as chain maker and ship blacksmith. Shipowners and others from his native Province found in him one who, as a master mechanic and a kind-hearted friend, was always ready to render them every assistance and advice which his sound judgment and skill could impart.

Mr. McMillan was for many years an honored member of the Caledonian Club of P. E. Island, took a deep interest in its welfare, and was but seldom absent from its annual gatherings. He was much esteemed by a large circle of relatives and friends on the Island, as well as at his adopted home in Pictou, S. Wesympathise with his bereaved widow and family in their sore affliction.

In reply tothe renewal of this little bluff game, [ would say :—It is high time P. E.
