The marriage of Helen Hughes. daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. A. lawson of Charlottetown. and John David, son of Mr. and Mrs. H. S. I-Ionsberger, of York Mills, Toronto, was solemnized in Charlottetown yesterday morning at Si. James Presbyterian Church, the Reverend T. H. B. Scmers officiating.

The bride, given in marriage by m" father, wore a period gown of white faille and heirloom lace, cut with iitted bodice, the full skirt falling in soft pleats. The mandarin collar was ornamented" with her

f orange blossoms. She carried a cascade bouquet of pink Delight roses, carnailons and bouverdes.

Her attendant. Miss Alfreda Picker-d, was gowned in sea-foam green fallle with portrait neckline. fashioned with net inserts. The draped skirt was gathered at the back with a bustle bow. Her cos- tume was completed by a matching halo head-dress. Her nosegay was 0f snapdragol. in pastel shades.

The groom was attended by his brother, Mr. Hugh Hornsberlfll‘ 0f Toronto. The ushers were Mr. Sandy Lawson, brother of the bride. and Mr. Alan Macmillan.

The first camp period for boys 9-11 years was organized this year for the first time. "Crossing The Bar”

0n the morning of July 2nd at approximately 4 p.m., the spirit of baby Ronald MacDonald, beloved son of Mr. and Mrs. Calvin Mac- Donald, Cornwall, passed from this world to the great beyond.

Taken suddenly ill, the 18-month- old child was rushed to the Prince Edward Island Hospital on June 29, and despite the best medical skill and tender nursing. “little Ronnie", as he was familiarly cai- led. could not be saved.

God needed another jewel for His .crown. and so, in the early hours of that beautiful July morning, the second day after being seized by a fatal malady, the Master laid upon that tiny brow His tender touch, and baby Ronald slept.

"'Ere sin could blight or sorrow

fade,

Death came with kindly care;

The opening bud to Heaven con-

veyed,

And bade it blossom there."

The beautiful floral tributes that were placed beside the tiny white casket, and the songs of the birds from the whispering trees without, seemed to add a touch of heavenly color and music to the otherwise

‘ occasion.

At 2 p.m. Sunday. July 3rd, Rev. M. K. Charman delivered his mov- ing and appropriate funeral oration, in which he pointed out the place occupied by children in God's king- dom as foretold in the Book of Books. His address was proceeded by the children's hymn, "When He Cometh to Make up His Jewels."

Both the home and grave ser- vices were conducted by Mr, Char- man; and the remains were laid to rest in Cornwall Cemetery.

In writing the above obituary cer- tain thoughts come to my mind, thoughts which I should like to ex- press at this time, namely:

Why should we grieve unneces- sarily for those that have been ta- ken from us for a short time‘! Shell we ever learn to master suffering and its attendant miseries? Why does adversity cause so many of us to ponder whether life really ls worth while? These are difficult questions to answer. But does it matter much whether we are able to answer them or not? We have the knowledge that Christ suffered on His way to Calvary and again when he gave up His life on the Cross for the redemption of your soul and mine. Surely He knew that the price of suffering was worth the crown of everlasting glory.

Such cries of grief had been uttered since the dawn of cre- ation up unto the present hour. But none is alone in their mourning and suffering. God does_ not play favorites, and the rain falls on the just as well as the unjust.

No matter what your Cross may be it is well to remember that there are others who are carrying a hea- vier burden.

We are not created for the pur- pose of living on this earth for- ever. Sickness, sorrow and death are but a part of life. This is the law of life; so when tribulation comes we ought to receive it as a part of our earthly imperfection.

"A trouble! an ounce, or a trouble] a ton. or a trouble is what you make it."

And often the fires of adversity are a purifying process that leads us to find our better selves. Often the heart of man has to be broken before he becomes truly great.

So, when you and I are called upon to face our Calvary, let us remember that Jesus Christ trod the same path centuries ago.

0n June 12th, Mrs. Charles Jones was hostess in her home to s. quiet, but pretty wedding which was sol- emnized when Mabel Louise En- man of Pownal became the bride of Charles Tupper Ferguson, Marsh- field. The ceremony was perform- ed by Rev. E. R. MacVlcar in the presence of a number of close friends of the contracting parties.

The drawing room was prettily decorated for the occasion, with white lilacs.

As the strains of the , wedding march were being played by Mrs. Beatrice Judson, the bride entered the drawing room on the arm of her friend, Mrs. Geo. Carver, Pow- nsl’s youthful old lady. The groom was supported by Almon Wood, friend and neighbor of the groom.

The bride was becomingly attir- ed in a blue gown, with it she wore white accessories. Her corsage was composed of Lily of the Val- ley, Mysotls and Lace Fern.

Later the happy couple drove off from the hospitable home of Lay- ton and Mr. and Mrs. Charles Jones amid showers of confetti, bearing with them the good wishes of their friends.

Bhiang Appeals For Renewed American Aid

Chiang Kai-Shell's latest appeal for renewed American aid in an effort to halt the communist pene- tration of Asia comes‘ at a. time when the subject ls being newly agitated in Washington.

A numiber of senators are advo- cating a new aid program. The‘ Chinese Nationalist Government at Canton has been trying to per- suade Amerlcamofficials that s new military stand can be made in Western China. There have been reports that "young Chinese" with American ideas are organizing a. resistance movement. The planes which have been harrassing the Communists around Shanghai ap- parently are from Chiang’: For- mosa redoubt, although operating from bases nearer their targets.

On the face of it, renewed rc- sistance seems to be developing. Underneath, American authorities find little on which to base any hope. Econo. ‘ aid to non-Com- munist territory will continue. Military intervention seems to be over for good.

American policy makers are look- ing to the past for an explanation of what happened. and to the fu- ture for clues on relations with the

Communists. As for the present, it _

is merely accepted.

The administration is expected to answer the senators soon with s "white paper" describing and ex- plaining lmt volley. but not con- taining s. new program.

A lot of people have interpreted recent discussions of China policy among the Western Powers as di- recied toward development of s new policy. As I get it. however, they have been directed merely at' an agreement for unified action when the time for new policy mak- ing arrives. Something just to make sure that nobody rushes intoi unilateral action on such things as the recognition of a Communist. government.

(On that point there is strong evidence that the Communists will be recognized when their regime is a functioning fact, after the West has exacted whatever conces- sions it can from them.)

As for Chiangs appeal, there is little new in it. |

Most observers now agree with‘ him that the Chinese Communists belong to the Moscow sphere. rath- er than being nationalistic in the Tito pattern.

The decision before the United Slates Government has been whe- ther to beccime directly involved in the Chinese civil war (or to be re- lnvoived in it new) or to avoid further irritation of relations with the Co nmunlsts.

The Communists will have a lot of trouble organizing China. They are going to need economic aid which Russia cannot supply. as Eastern Europe has foumd. They are going to have vast troubles with the large Mosiem population. Marwhuris lies between Chinese nationalism and Russian acquisi- tlveness like a bone between two hungry dogs.
